if you relocate your battery, and you want to take your car to the track. Don't you have to get a cut off switch. (maybe this is just for my local track)

And a battery box, no? I definately would not mount a battery like that in my trunk, let alone a wet cell.

Well the alternator fuse on a 2g is 100A. Most 4 gauge power wire I have found is only 90 or 100A. Or does the alternator no even put out that? If 4 gauge is safe that is great because its a heck of a lot cheaper.

Nevermind. Found the answer. It appears the stereo guys were blowing smoke up my butt because 4 gauge power wire is rated at about 150amps.

I have only found battery boxes for full size batteries. Is there a way to have the best of both worlds and relocate a small battery like for instance a dyna-bat to the trunk so you save weight and get it out of the engine bay

I was looking for an NHRA fullu enclosed legal box, like a aluminum one like the Taylor ones but for a mini battery. Know of any?

Again i have a 91 Galant Gsx and i relocated the battery to the back but the install in not complete due to the fact of not knowing the needed requirements for a inspection safe install. I currently live in Brooklyn but the car would be inspected in PA, and i've been told that with relocating the battery that you must have two circuit breakers(front and back) and a kill switch and obviously the battery box and hold down for it. Can anyone verify that is correct or can i save some money on that install????

thats somthing you would need to inquire with the PA dmv.
if you wanted to know if its NHRA and IHRA legal thats another story.

I know this thread is old, but I have the same question and searching didn't give me what I was looking for. I know JM makes one to keep the battery up front, but I was wondering if anyone made a small battery box that I could stick in the trunk?

I was thinking about putting in the little side bin in the GSX trunk.I have a small amp and a fuel pump rewire plus the stock stuff running off of it.

I'm not really answering your question but the other day at my local track a guy had his battery mounted where the stock SMIC goes. it was pretty rad. I guess it beats running lines to the back of the car. I never saw anyone do that before, but then again i'm a hermit.

That sounds kind of retarded the battery would be exposed to all sorts of conditions down there and potientially fall off and land right in front of his tire and cause a wreck or cause someone else to wreck. I wouldnt advise doing something like this.

I didnt need a battery kit to run mines to the truck.
Go grab you a 6 dollar battery box from walmart, and about 10 feet of the thickest speaker amp wire you can find, find a nice hole thru the passenger side of the fire wall ( I drilled my hole ) get a connector to tap the amp wire to the three hot posts and get it real tight, thoroughly electric tape any exposing metal up and find a good place to zip tie it somewhere were it doesnt move. Run the wire thru the fire wall, under the carpet and seats ( along stock wiring harness route ) behind rear side panels to whereever you decied to mount the battery in the hatch.
I mounted mines on the passenger side rear corner ( best place for wire travel, and for wt distrubution since the drivers side of the car is heavier by engine location etc. )
Then drill the battery box down into the chasis where you know it cant move and then your technically done, and then feel free to enjoy all the added engine bay space.:thumb:

Then to do it real clean, in which I havent done yet, get a capacitor for any shorting issues that may arise which can start a fire in the car if it burns up the wiring harness or something. But if you just install it real good, and electric tape EVERYTHING ( including the amp wire, and make sure theres no sharp edges like I did) then youd be ok.

Well I know how to do it, I just that I was wondering about the aluminum box. I want it to be done 100% correct, so there are no issues if I take the car to the track.
So do I need a kill switch, what else is needed? And how big of a fuse should be used?

I would skip the kit from Summit. The gauge wire is almost too small I would go with 1 or 0. Plus they only include the + cable. You should be running the negative back to the front as well to do it properly. Also you don't need a battery box if you spend the money and get an Optima battery. I would use 80-100 amp fuse near the battery. This also give you the perfect opportunity to rewire your fuel pump now that it can feed right off that battery next to it.

Hmm.. guy who owned my car before me had a stereo in it.. there's quite a large wire from the battery to the hatch already.. could I just use that? all I'd have to do is buy a battery box and a distribution block or something to connect it to alt and fuse box.. it already has an inline 100amp fuse..

Why do you suggest running a ground wire back house? do you think that just grounding it through the chassis wouldn't be good enough?

I didn't know what type of track he meant. I just assumed the box was needed so he could vent.
VanIsle, I just think grounding it way in the back on a unibody car is not going to be a good engine/chassis ground.

Sorry but I wouldn't run the ground wire all the way back, that's just dumb. IF that was the way to do it then people would do that with their stereo amps as well right? You want the shortest possible path to ground.
I want it a box for looks, and to be legal.

I got mine from streettunedmotorsports.com. It comes with 2 - 200amp breakers, 4 guage wire and all the ring terminals needed. It was pretty simple wiring it all up. I would give them a shot.

I would just get the blue plastic moroso box or some equivalent that NHRA legal. Then like previously mentioned make sure you vent the battery(Im not sure if this applies if you are using optima batteries but check anyway).I ran 0 guage wire to the fuse box of my car. Also if you really want to be legit you are going to need to do a battery cut off switch.
Heres my setup on my 95.
