basic upgrades for an auto

recently i got a auto awd i have had all 5 speed. just wondering if there is a diffrent type of path for the auto's to get more power and where to start. i did the basic tune up on it already and have a cat back but still nothing to impressive

The biggest gain seen will be from ditching the exhaust mani and stock turbo. The outlet size of the exhaust mani/inlet of the turbo is sooooo small it's scary to think of all the air that's coming out of the motor trying to cram through there.

When you take it off you'll see what I mean. It's really about the size of a half-dollar coin. A 14b and manual or 2g exhaust manifold will yield bigger gains than anything else at this point and can be picked up for less than $150 total.

anything to help the engine breathe better. exhaust manifold, turbine housing (16g), o2 housing. automatics are not slower. they make take a tad bit more power to run because of the oil pump, and are slightly heavier, but they run consistent times given the rest of the setup is. they will shift faster than any human possibly can, so that also makes up a difference. what you should be looking to do is helping the trans hold more power (shift kit, rebuild, end clutch improvements) and get an air cooler instead of letting coolant "cool" it. keep that ATF maintained too if you go to upgrade the trans.

^^^ As far as I know there is no upgrade for a 13g turbine housing. The 6cm (14b) and 7cm (16g, 20g) housings won't work on a 13g unfortunately.

i believe he is talking about swapping the turbo in general.

forgot to mention i already have a 14b on there unsure if its a auto manifold though. i have put a catback on the car and took the cover off the air filter. but to me it still seems kind of sluggish and pokey

Higher stall torque converter is nice, as well as a shift kit. I personally like my trip tronic shifting box from Eagle Tim on here. That goes for actual AUTOMATIC and Trans componets, as well as normal upgrades, front mount helps considerably when higher up in boost, and anything that makes it breather more, bigger turbo, exhaust mani, intake....ect.

I recomond a tranny temp gauge, with autos you want to keep an eye out for this.

You dont need a higher stall until you start putting up some bigger HP numbers though. I would get a tranny temp gauge, upgrade the turbo adn intake as well as exhasut (## basic bolt ons) and i love my shift box.... i would recommend one

Depends how you put it in...some put it in the bottom of the pan, i tapped my line and put a "blocker unit" in....so the sensor screws into a metal piece then it has ends that i cut a slot in the tranny cooler line and just used little clamps

I don't know if anyone has seen my limp mode post. But now that my car is out of limp mode is is really boggy till I see around 5ilb of boost. Then I thrown into the seat.

How did you correct your limp mode? And this boggyness i would guess is small boost leaks, and or you are getting very bad turbo lag, maybe due to restricted exhaust....

A cheap combo that I recently did to one of my daughters auto cars is - 550cc injectors, small 16G and a 3G MAF (Chip and MAF from Keydiver.). Will be adding a Pun. Racing DP and a decent exhaust next.

I was wondering what size injectors do the autos have and is the intake manifold the same? If I were to put 450's in it ( assuming they are not 450s) and a 14b with a 2G manifold would I have to retune the car or would the ecu be able to figure it out. I have never owned an auto before. Can you run link in an auto ecu?

Stock 1g is auto is 390cc. No, the ECU won't be able to adjust correctly for the larger injectors. Yes, you can run Link in an Auto ECU. For now, why not throw in a 1g Manual ECU to compensate for the injectors?

The fuel pressure the 390/auto setup runs basically equals the same flow the 450/manual is. The intake manifold is basically the same across all USDM 2.0 engines, with the exception of the placement of some vacuum ports, and probably something ### with the 1990.

So i was lookong into an auto 95 gsx for my girl as a daily ### someone macked her car but i test drove one and is it normal when i put it in drive the car diddnt roll itself? It only got going when revved to like 2k? Also felt real sluggish acceleration wise he said it because the awd is harder to get going but i dont know due to never owning an auto ? But its got like 110k on it bodys in good shape stock exept for intake pipe and its leaking oil really bad from the front seals. I just dont want to buy a car thats going to need a tranny . Just give me some imput guys thanks.

In order to swap to a 5 speed ECU(which I really recommend because it doesnt retard timing when you get on the converter like the Auto ECU does) you need the following:

450cc injectors.
1G 5speed fuel pressure regulator.
5 speed ECU.

and thats it. I recommend finding an Eprom ECU the first time around.

Sounds like that trans needs a rebuild soon.
