so, i just scooped up some 550cc RC ENG. injectors. now, im no retard to fuel injection so i knew what would happen when i installed them. .....and i did. the car runs on 16lbs boost on stock turbo with a hacked MAF and some other free mods. it was hitting what felt like fuel cut at 5g's. i turned boost down, problem solved. once i had injectors in the car it BARELY ran at idle, sounded like a big-cammed v8. once boost kicks in it takes off like a rocket. i totally knew that would happen and fully understand why. i just need to know whats the easiest/best way to control the ammount of air going in. the question is......

Will a MAFT automatically correct the air/fuel ratio in the engine? or do i need to buy a SAFC-II. i know the safc will solve my fuel problems but i dont wanna buy more than i need to. any help would be appreciated.

For about $115 bucks this guy can hook you up so that you can drive your car without running mega rich.

I'm just gonna ignore meggasquirt cause I doubt he will get that anyway but where would you put VPC+GCC on the list than. Now just so you know before you say something else you can have custom chips made by David B. beyond the 660 chip so VPC then pretty much becomes a keydriver type setup. How many people do you know going 9's on just a keydriver chip and safc?????

a chip or re flashed ecu is a band aid. Each is entitled to his own opinion.

A band aid for what? WTF Are you implying that he needs surgery for an itch?

Its a low cost alternative to spending $500+ dollars on a dsmlink or gmaft+safc just to get more fuel.

the whole thing is, i want to be able to run my car and tune it without spending a whole boatload of money. dsmlink + maft = 800+ dollars for me. while yes, this would solve ALL my problems and eliminate the need for future tuning upgrades for the most part.....i really dont have 800 bucks to drop into this 99% stock car. i could save up but.....i got another project i need to get running before i dump a few thousand into the dsm. other project is a big block (466cid) 83 mustang gt. yes, its not an import, yes it is a gas guzzler, yes its a pain to tune (dual carbs) but it will be fast and loud and purpose built. ...the purpose is to have fun on the street and to catch eyes with the tunnel ram sticking out of the hood. est. hp will be about 550-600 on pump gas. thats another story and i wont clutter this forum with that again unless asked. :)

i guess ill save for the MAFT first and install that and see what happens, then save up for the DSMLink next. its gonna suck with a stock turbo but i have no other options. then comes the 3" exhaust with o2 elim (not atmosphere dump either, too loud) and of course a FMIC. theres a bunch of other crap i could install but im hoping for high 200 almost 300hp range

Honestly just take out the injectors or go buy a 2g mas and you will atleast be able to run respectably good untill you can save up for something that suits your tuning needs. The reason the 2g mas works with 550's is cause the diffrence between the 1g and 2g mas is about 20% leaner in favor of the 2g mad. So by putting a 2g mas on a car with stock 450's you would run about 20% leaner 550's just happen to be about 20% risher than 450's so you get the idea.

or a hundered bucks on a AFC???

Are you serious man you can pick up the VPC GCC Combo for like 400 bucs and that includes everything you need to rune and run a MAFless setup. Dsmlink you need a eprom ecu and lap top. AEM you need crazy sensors and again a lap top. Keydriver chip which by the way is better than a safc for genral driveablity because it works like dsmlink and doesn't lie to the ecu like a piggy back(safc/maft ect.) you still need a eprom ecu. S you figure the average eprom ecu socketed and shipped is about 250 bucs you add that to the chip and your at about 365 bucs 40 bucs less than the vpc+GCC setup. Dsmlink and AEM are my favorites but fo course after cost of other parts and what not your def in the 1k range.

I just sold a dsmlink set up for 650. Just about any 50 dollar laptop will work.

This is my opinion. I think he just get a AFC and worry about a maft when he over runs his stock/2g maf.

Did you 650 include a socketed eprom ecu softwars dsmlink chip and everything he would need to run it? At best case it did and that's still 250 bucs more than vpc setup.

yea it was a set up ready to go in to any dsm.

200 bucks for unlimited expansion is worth it.

I would bet my right arm tis isn't true as 2g and 1g dsmlink are diffrent. Unless you sold him a chip for both. Your a good dsm seller cause that's about the lowest a total package will cost you anywhere the 400 I stated is more likely how much you will pay for a VPC GCC setup which again has run 9's. I talked to the guy directly and he said he final goal is aorund 300hp and one of his main determining factors is money so I think the 250 bucks might not mean a lot to you or me but you have to keep in mind that this is a thread for him not us. I never said he should buy VPC anyway I just gave him some options out there.

I've had great luck with just the maft so far. I'll be getting a eprom chip burned for basic compensation but otherwise it works fine.

Hell I helped my friend put down 480+whp with an eprom chip and just a maft. The chip had a terribly rich dip right about spoolup too that we couldn't tune around to save our ass, but w/o that we could've hit 500 whp with just those too. He'd mis-grounded the e-manage unit he normally used the day before the dyno appointment so we just used the maft instead. He's a glutton for punishment though for mixing the eprom, maft, and e-manage all together.

What are your goals for the car? If they're not too extreme, just the maft alone may be all you need. I've the the maft and 650's running just fine right now. Could it be better, sure, but I've only messed with the car for a couple days since last October when I had it running great on 510's.

If you only want 300-some whp then the MAFT or s-afc my be your best bet. I'm around that range on it alone right now and it wasn't that hard to get it tuned in. Getting the maft would allow you to vent your bov if you wanted, but it would also require custom ic piping to accomodate it all. The s-afc would let you keep your stock maf and piping for now.

You don't need to an maft + s-afc or dsmlink to make 300hp.

well, everybody knows maft is about 200 bucks, after that, id probably get an AFC. from there im going with a 3" turbo back exhaust. that should put me somewhere NEAR where i want to be. considering im stock turbo, the power output will be limited. everybody knows the turbo in the auto is SMALL. i have a t04 in my garage, brand new but im kinda cautious of installing it because the exhaust AR is .84. the compressor is .50 which is fine, its a 450hp turbo so......ill install that eventually down the road after i get all i can out of the stock turbo. lets not forget a FMIC. definately gonna install one of those. its gonna be a fun project, thats for sure. not many people throw money into auto dsm's.

Sell that thing and get a 16g install kit with a new manifold too. It'll make things so much easier to reach that 300hp goal.

16g is a little small for future upgrades. im not talking about a permanent setup. further down the road of course i would like to go faster. if i get rid of the t04 id probably get a 20g at the very least. my buddy had one on his 90gsx and with 3" exh, maft, safc, fmic, fuel pump, 780cc injectors, ported heads and a few other mods he was shredding everything that touched him, aside from heavily modded v8's nobody could touch him. id say he had around the 400hp ballpark. i want a setup similar to his but i dont want to copy him because i want to do something different

i see that there are two size GM MAF's. Does it matter which size i get? I know i need to buy a new UICP that will work for the blow through setup. I have a greddy fmic and stock throttle body if that information helps. Can soembody please help me out here becasue im a little confused. Maybe im just misunderstanding soemthing. What size GM MAF should i be looking for?
