Basic MAFT Questions
What is it?
What does it do?
Where does it go?
Where does the xxxx color wire go?
Can I vent with a MAFT?
What MAF can I use?
Can I use a 2g MAFT with a 1g?
Can I use a 1g MAFT with a 2g?

Sorry guys !but am not really sure about this one. What does the MAFT really do and is it a good buy?thanks

If that's the case, you may have bought a 1g translator for your 2g car. It will still work, so no need to freak out. You just have to splice all the color-coordinated wires and connect them.

I had a friend make the same mistake, and actually he called Dejon (where slowboy gets the translators) and they exchanged his translator for him.

Ahh that sucks. Everything, including the instructions says it's for a 2g even the receipt. As far as ordering it, I ordered the one for a 2g. Would a pic help in determining which one I have?

depending on how you want your car car setup...you can either go draw thru or blow thru.
I have done a blow thru setup on my car, but you will need to purchase/make UICP and a flange for a bov somewhere on the pipe. I put the GM MAF on my trottle body elbow, and hooked the translator up to the GM, and the stock MAF sensor with the two wiring harnesses that the translator comes with.

Ya I already have a non stock UICP with the BOV on the pipe. So that won't be a problem. The GM MAF is already mounted on the piece that adds to my throttle body. That's exactly how I tried to hook it up, but for some reason the clip from the stock harness won't clip into the clip from the harness off the translator. I'm going to try tonight with a little more force.

also if you wish you could just hardwire the MAFT. Leave a bit of the original wire at the plug incase you decide to change your mind later on But here is the signals on the wires of the translator. http://www.fullthrottletech.com/showthread.php?t=306&highlight=samurai Also www.fullthrottletech.com has a complete forum just for the translator. Its always good to check it occasionally and see if they have updates ect. Ive been running mine now for a few years and was a beta tester of the V2.0x and still going strong.

To answer glish_dreams, it is always better to start a new post rather than hyjack someone elses. Do a search of GM MAF or MAFT and see how it properly lets you vent your BOV and is less restrictive than the stock MAS.

Ok, so I finally got around to installing my MAFT setup I bought from Dejon. Well, on the translator there are two stray wires. A shorter purple wire, and a longer white wire. The longer white wire is supposed to be splice with the second black wire on the Cam Angle Sensor, however; there are two black wires on the CAS.

And for the purple wire, it doesn't say where to run it. Help please!

The purple wire is an RPM activation wire. If you are not running anything that requires that, it is not needed.

The other wire is for an RPM signal. Do you have a pic of the harness? There should only be 1 black wire. This is only needed if you plan on doing RPM fine tuning, so you can still run it without having it hooked up.

You can also use pin #4 on the power transistor.

OK, got it all setup and it runs great. Went down the road and pushed the clutch in and it revved straight to 7k. Shut the car off and pulled over. The intercooler piping was off so I got it back home and put it back on. Then I started it again and it wants to go straight to 4 grand and stay there at idle. Checked the throttle cable and it seems fine, can't see anything noticeable.

Maybe it's just because I'm so tired, but I gave up on it. Anyone have any ideas why it wants to idle like this now? I haven't messed with the MAFT yet, I just left it with the stock settings.

Thanks alot. I will definately be checking this out. :thumb:

so why do we replace with a GM, whts the gains from this??

The GM MAF + MAFT Setup:
1) Removes the restriction before the turbo
2) Lets the turbo breathe
3) Allows you to vent to atmosphere

Note: The stock 2G MAS is good for upto 400HP.

okay i got my maft setup almost doen just need to find the rpm signal wire i know i can use the one in the ecu that i tapped for my safc II but it says i can use power transistor pin 4 which im hoping will be easier to get at but i really have no clue where the power transisor is or what it is(at least by that name...) so im just wondering where i can find this. also on the new MAFT i assume the single purple wire is the aux wire it mentions.

there is no grey wire coming from the cas there is a black red and green/blue wire

hmmm mine had two grey wires and there was one larger one. Have you done a search on here or on vfaq.com as to what wire to tap comming out of the CAS??? I know there has to be a tech article about it somewhere in the community.

Or you can just run your MAFT from air flow (hz) instead of RPM signal, thats what I do, and I didin't need to tap any wires at all, just plug in the MAS connector leaving the purple and white wire aside. and inside the MAFT make sure you have it setup for airflow (wich is usually the DEFAULT) check your manual for that, its very easy.

I guess in the end it somes down to your choice.

so i dont have too connect to a rpm source if i leave it in AIRFLOW mode. also can i just set it for my size injectors and set my safc back to 0% and start tuning with it and just leave the maft alone since i know what im doing with my safc??

Yes you can do that, its one of the main reasons people run a maft in blow through set up.

okay i just finished installing a new intercooler all new piping and a gm maft setup in blowthru setup. now i left the rpm wire disconnected as i was told i dont need to hook it up as long as i stay in airflow mode. when i first started the car the idle surged from about 300rpm to 1800rpm and would stall out after about 3 or 4 times of doing this cycle then once i got it warmed up it would stop stalling but still surged. so i turned on the startup enrichment mode and it idles fine for a bit but still surges between 800rpm and shoots up to 1500 rpm or so every once in a while (did it twice in 3min of idleing) also if i rev it up and let off the rpms will fall to about 400 or so for a few seconds then catch back up.(my car usually does this when i reset the ecu till i drive it for about 20min but not really sure if thats normal) really the only thing that concerns me is that there is quite a bit of smoke that is comming out the exhaust(more than normal) it is pure white with just the normal exhaust smell doesnt smell like it is running rich. i let the car idle for about 20min playing with the Fuel trims and found that i need to set my safc at 6% to get the car to have <5% fuel trims at each rpm point (1000,2000,3000) but yet my O2 voltage is rather low (forgot the number didnt log it just viewed the numbers) so really i just want to know if this is all nomral for a new setup and if not what could the possible problems be.

PS to all the grammar nazis I am extremely sorry for my lack of the english language in this post im just in a very big hurry so please dont flame away.

what size injectors are you using, was version of the translator do you have, what do you have the maft knobs set to( knobs and the 4 dip switches, what size maf are you using?

I've just installed my MAFT 2.02 recently and my car would idle fine except when i was driving and slowing down, then it would idle low enough where it sounded like it would want to die. I ended up turning up the idle on the throttle body. Unfortunately my logger cable is messed up and my car is still just parked for the winter so i didnt have time to play with it much yet. So im kind of in the same boat.
