Basic MAFT Questions
What is it?
What does it do?
Where does it go?
Where does the xxxx color wire go?
Can I vent with a MAFT?
What MAF can I use?
Can I use a 2g MAFT with a 1g?
Can I use a 1g MAFT with a 2g?

Sorry guys !but am not really sure about this one. What does the MAFT really do and is it a good buy?thanks

just as a little update what i did was installed everything and didnt connect the rpm wire at all just plugged up, set the base for 450's according to the manual and started it up. There was some fine tuning that was needed but overall my car has never run better than with this, it feels GREAT!

Starting my budget project and have a MAFT question.

My frind is selling me his MAFT out of his 97 GSX, other than the plug not matching, can I use the 2g version with my 92 Talon? I'm not sure if the units share the same software. Thanks for reading!:talon:

I was talking about the MAF Translator for the GM MAF :)

But good on you mate! That was good info on that page. Now I know what wire is which on the plug! :thumb:

i had the 2G mas before i got my MAFT so when i converted i just left my 2G spliced harness and connector on my 1g wiring. Plugged it in and it works GREAT! After ver 2.0 of the translater there is absolutly no differnce in the chip just the harness. Goodluck and im sure it will work great for you as it did in my application.

i'm so confused. i thoguht all you had to do was match up the wiring?

Thank you all for the fast reply and informative answers!!! :thumb:

Just to verify: The answer is yes; just splice the wires. Right?

as long as you splice them correctly yes, but make sure you have them all right because it can get tricky. If you have access to a 2G maf plug from a bone yard for a five finger discount id just do that so you can have the ease of unplugging it and everything when you want to. Also on my V2.02 on the outside cover where it says MAFT "horsepower in a box" or w/e in the bottom right hand corner of the sticker theres a little white area that has written 2.02 on it.

ive heard of people running that gm maft. where about could i get one? whats the advantage and disadvantage ? whats the installation like

A MAFT is actually just a translator for the GM MAF (hence the "T" at the end). GM MAFs are either 3" or 3.5". You can get them anywhere from eBay to the classifieds to www.DSMparts.com. The biggest benefit is more airflow for when you have a large turbo or major modifications to make use of more air. Other benefits include being able to properly vent your BOV to the atmosphere.

i just got the maft and 3''gm and i would like to know how some cars run with out the stock mas because dont you need to plug that in to it with the big plug that comes with the maft. Sorry about the newbie question.

Thanks Mike

Your question is hard to understand (or I am way more tired than I thought I am), no offense dude. But the GM MAF replaces the stock MAS. And the MAFT has a plug (so be it not the best fit) that conects to the harness where the stock MAS used to plug into. Then another plug that connects to the GM MAF. But when doing this mod, your stock MAS sits in the garage, or what ever else you plan to do with it.

No, its not you. The sentence structure on his question was terrible. I'm not even sure I can even start to imagine what he was asking.

( I cannot believe I am stuck to this section for my first 50 posts...)

I apologize about that :sosad: . I'll try to explain myself again. I bought a MAF KIT here: http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=5134&

This is what I got from the instructions. Two harnesses come out of the translator. One plugs into the GM MAF and the other one plugs into the stock harness which was originally plugged into the stock MAF. For some reason, I can't get this original harness to plug into the harness of the translator.

If that's the case, you may have bought a 1g translator for your 2g car. It will still work, so no need to freak out. You just have to splice all the color-coordinated wires and connect them.

I had a friend make the same mistake, and actually he called Dejon (where slowboy gets the translators) and they exchanged his translator for him.
