Basic MAFT Questions
What is it?
What does it do?
Where does it go?
Where does the xxxx color wire go?
Can I vent with a MAFT?
What MAF can I use?
Can I use a 2g MAFT with a 1g?
Can I use a 1g MAFT with a 2g?

Sorry guys !but am not really sure about this one. What does the MAFT really do and is it a good buy?thanks

well, your going to drop $250+ for just the sound that could get you larger injectors...or larger pump, AFC, or most of a used 16g. You guys both have 2G's you will not overrun your stock MAS until 400Hp or so. The MAFT gets even worse if humidity gets on it, and temperature changes screw things up as well since it doesnt have a temperature sensor.

Have you already tried venting w/o a GM MAFT? My car ran fine when I did it, after a pull --between gears (when the BOV would let off) it backfired a bit tho, that was the only ill effect I noticed.

If your doing it just for the sound go for it -- you can also use it as a tuning device your drawback will be your turbo at it limits.

depending on how much you are going to spend on the MBC.... the MAFTPRO also has a built in boost controller. It really is badass.

turbo at its limits as in........ its going to run max boost? ive read that venting without the maf or maft causes it to run rich....
what would taking out the stock maf and putting the gm maf in the uicp after the bov do?

My stock t25 ran at just over 12psi, they are pretty much maxed out at 16psi so your not going to get much more out of it. It will also drop off faster the closer to redline you get.

Running w/o a maft will make it run rich between shifts (or basically when the BOV goes off) but only because the metered air was not there. It doesn't add anymore fuel, it's the same amount of fuel as it would use when it's being recirculated. Some people have trouble running vented, some don't.. Might as well give it a try :)

Taking out the mas and putting the maft at the uicp -- by placing it here THIS is where your metering spot is, so this is where the air is "counted" therefor you can have a boostleak, blow an intercooler pipe off, and you willstill be able to drive your car, and you can vent without running "rich" between shifts (I only say rich because the AIR is not there, its the same amount of fuel as I mentioned above).

Here is another really high quality pic -- you can see where and how I placed the maft.

that allows me to vent without running rich when the BOV goes off.

what does that mean? the t25 isnt what comes stock on a 2g is it? :dsm:

btw, DAAAAAMMMM LARGE EXTERNAL WASTEGATE!!!!

You think thats big, you should see the turbo ROFL LOL

T-25 is what comes stock on a 2G - thats the turbo you have. People still seem to want them though, upgrade to something and sell it for 120ish. Thats what I did.

wat kind of maf are u using and do u have the maft as well? do you have an airbox and or filter or... how r u runnign that?

at the time of that pic i was on a DSM run trying to track down a boost leak I didn't have so my intake pipe is off. I have a 3" pipe off the turbo to the stock airbox location where it connects to a K&N filter. I also have a home-made airbox to keep the engine heat away.

It's the MAFT -- in order to run a GM MAF on our cars you have to have the translator as well. So it's impossible to run the GM MAF without the translator.

ahh, i see. well. thanks for your help. ill get back to you when i actually get the stuff. until then, can u make a comment on my other post concerning inspecion for a 2g that i might get? i need some help there too. thanks :dsm:

Hey guys, it's been suggested to me that I go with a GM MAFT setup. Now, the only thing I know is that this allows me to use a GM MAS, and do something regarding my fuel injectors. However, this is the extent of my knowledge regarding the GM MAFT setup.

My question are:

What are the benefits of using this setup?

What does it allow me to do that I couldn't do otherwise?

What kind of benefits/drawbacks regarding tuning/AF ratio and timing when using this setup?

How does this effect my ECU/SAFC-C configuration?

Not knowing too much about this, I hope I'm asking the right questions, because I'm absolutely clueless regarding the GM MAFT setup, and am a novice at tuning with the S-AFC as is. I do have help regarding tuning when I need it from local friends including TurboLarry.

In 1Gs, you won't overrun the stock MAS with a MAFT setup. The only real differences that I noticed (I'm using this setup) is a bit quicker spool time, you can tune roughly, and you can vent your BOV. I use this to rough tune my car, and use the SAFC to fine tune it. It works the same as an SAFC; it modifies the airflow signal to the ECU, so you can have the same timing issues that you get with leaning out an SAFC.

so would i be able to use my injen intake or would i have to buy another intake if i decided to go with the gm maf?

You can reuse it just as long as your new upper charge pipe clears it. Mine didn't, I'm using a simple 3" pipe with a K&N. I don't know why you would want to reuse it though.

i have been running a maft setup for a while. the main reason was that my stock maf went bad. the barometric sensor in it went bad. i have enjoyed it and is really easy to get close to the fuel trims you need. i have had no problems with it so far and would recomend it.

You may find that by setting some of the switches/dials contrary to your vehicle/sensor type, will offer the best tunability. For instance, I use a 3" sensor, yet I have the #1 dip switch set to 3.5" sensor. My car runs better this way. *In other words, dont trust the adjustmenst given to you. Get a logger, and or wideband.*

Why would this work better? Why does changing your maf setting from a 3'' to a 3.5'' when using a 3'' help your car?

Im still new with turning this thing. the dip switches down = off, right?

It won't unless you have a 3.5" Gm on the car. Bigger sensor = more flow when using "godzilla" sized turbos.

Iam still confused of it!
My problem is in whole set-up.
Runing 3" GM maf,blow threw setup,walbro 255lph,stock T25 16 PSI.NO DATALOGER!
in future wanna TO4e 50trim(18-21PSI-got Stock engine),big injectors. FPR and all support things for 50trim.

Now need to make setup for my simple mods.
I know AUX 4,BASE 2(stock 450cc inj.) rest Iam confused!

Can anyone of you Pros. in this Maf T tuning write some "step by step" quide for us newbies?I mean some Easy :boring: Quide, not for Albert Einstein and other Mad profesors.
Of course I read lot of threads and how to´s but my second Big problem is translate it all! And translate Well, all that instruction is hard  since I don´t have Dataloger it´s more then worst!
Please be patient with me,I wanna learn and make some good mods on my Only ONE AWD DSM in my Country Czech republic
Thank you for your time

I just put one on my car to vent my bov. I left all the settings at zero for now because I don't have a logger either. My fuel and turbo is all stock so thats why I didn't need to tune the maft. You should be okay also. Benefits I have noticed are quicker spool the potential to adjust later. Just make sure your injector setting is correct. Leave everything at zero for the time being unless you have a lot of other mods done to your car that alter your air/fuel ratio. Install was easy but a pain for me to get my uicp to fit right. But was worth it in my opinion.

Looks like Good Idea to me.
So for right set injectors (stock 450cc)have to move Base 2 and AUX(I didn´t tap it so I don´t need move with AUX? right?
I would like to buy some Pipes for FMIC which are ready for 3" Maf. And Later buy New Intercooler(I got One old to use, and Money Is Pain for me! )
Thanks

May I remove Honeycomb from GM Maf?
My Maf was little bit pressed in box!
check pic.
May I remove it?Will be better flowing without HC or Maf will be wrong in mettering Air flow?
I read in 1G Maf remove lower HC and 2G NOT...

the reason why its there is to straighten the airflow so that the amount the maf is reading is correct... i suggest picking up a good one....
