Today when I downshifted and immediately accelerated I heard 2 or 3 popping sounds, almost sounded like back firing, is that normal? Never noticed any backfire while letting off gas at higher rpms. I used to drive a mustang GT and it wouldnt ever back fire when accelerating after downshifting however it back fired when at high rpms and I let off the gas. So what gives? Was it the clutch I heard on the eclipse?

Fyi- DSMs all day I no longer drive Mustangs, I eat them :hellyeah:

I would say it's normal, if your mustang had straight pipes you probably would of heard some backfire frequently. Usually I can get mine to let some good crackles out if I feather the pedal a bit.

+1 for DSM over mustang !

So does your backfire when you downshift and accelerate or when you are decelerating?

And theoretically I could somehow ignite this rich backfire to shoot flames right? Because that would be cool LOL

If you wanted to ignite your rich exhaust fumes and could drill and tap a spark plug in right before and muffler and wire to a switch that would allow you to turn on and ignite when you wanted to. I remember finding a kit somewhere that included everything needed. Im sure if you google it you will find it.

It backfires usually if I'm cruising and I get it up to 4-5k and just back off the throttle, so on deceleration but it'll do it on the downshift depending on the RPM level. Although I try to avoid slamming into a downshift so I don't look like I'm rocking out to Korn through downtown. :rocks:

& if you really wanted to, I suppose you could ignite it... either with a kit or a spark plug..:ohdamn:

I have not been able to replicate the back firing for anything. I guess I just dont got it

Too much time and trouble LOL

Shouldnt have to ignite it, my car shoots flames like crazy, even just cruising on the highway

Well, whats your secret? Lol
