you can kinda see mine, its pretty short

A true short shifter should reduce how far the throw of the shifter is not the height. u probably could have cut yours and rewelded it for cheaper than that piece you got and not break your knuckles on almost every shift.

This is a really dumb question but does a short shifter reduce the distance u have to put the shifter into gear. I used to own a 91 eclipse and now i have my 99 eclipse and the 99 is way closer together and i dont see how u could get any shorter.

yes - a short shifter isn't necessarily "short" - but it eliminates the throw travel. If the distance between 'in 2nd gear' and 'in 3rd year' is 4", a short shifter like BM's short shifter can eliminate that by 30% or 50%, thus making your travel only 2.8" or 2".

I would recommend one. My WRX has one, and my eclipse doesn't. The WRX has a nicer feel because the travel is short.

I only have the after pic of mine.....It is a cheaper ebay one, but I like it.....the only dislike is that sometimes I smash my fingers on the boot trim when shifting to first....I just havent gotten around to trim it....It is like a 20-25% reduction

A true short shifter changes the pivot point of the lever, and reduces the throw of the knob. Here are gory autotopsy photos for you C[ar]SI fans:

Shortening the lever itself will reduce the distance your hand has to move the stick (just like grabbing it below the knob instead of up higher), but it is a different thing than what a short shifter does.

i bought an obx racing short throw shifter a few months back an had it installed but it broke on me as i was going home one day so my car was undrivable for quite awhile  ...but the shifter felt really good compared to stock. but we had to put back my stock shifter, i dont think ill ever buy a short throw shifter again. :thumbdown

exactly, i have been hammering through gears for about a year now with my B&M shorty and it hasnt shown any sign of stress, so like the old saying goes you get what you pay for

ya, B&M short shifter is AWESOME!! i got mine from a speed shop here in tulsa.oklahoma for $130. shortens throw alot! got mine set on 50%. i suggest B&M to anyone! :thumb:

No thanks, Im just running a shortened stock one with the symborski shift kit. May not be as good but I can spend that $155 somewhere else.

I put one of these on with it set at 50%, underhood bushings, symbroski kit, and now a razo type 400 shift knob (razo's CW version, greddy is on perma-backorder everywhere). I must say that it is an amazing difference.

At first I only had the B&M at 50% and the underhood bushings and just that made an incredible difference. With everything else on, each gear is very defined and clicks into place like it should.

I got my B&M off of ebay for 156 shipped very quickly. Check there, they're all over the place.

Hey i just installed my B&M short shifter set at 35% reduce throw. Does it take a while to get used to? Cause to me at first its feeling a lil weird. And putting into first it seems sorta rough. But maybe im just not used to this. Its also weird trying to put it in neutral. Does anyone have one and did it feel weird at first???

When it comes to short shifters you get what you pay for. B&M is pricey, but by far the best quality shifter for our cars. I say go B&M, accept nothing less. (you wont regret it) :thumb:
