B&M and clone short shifter 2nd gen eBay Megan [Merged 3-7]

As far as the shift kit goes, DSMParts.com has the same thing for like $5 cheaper and they carry shifter linkage bushings for under the hood...they work great, hard to tell when i'm actually in gear sometimes though, still getting use to it all.

Are there any kits to make the shifter (manual) short?
Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

check out road race engineering and the B&M short throw (under drivetrain) its one of the better ones out.

OBX, Pace Setter and B&M.

Don't even _think_ about OBX and Pace Setter.

The B&M is expensive, and worth it.

You can also shorten the shift lever, or move the point where the cable attaches to the bellcrank on the transmission.

i went to the track recently and i noticed that all of the 2gs were not using a short throw shifter. are they bad for the trans. i am only askin because i was looking into getting a short shifter.

Just wondering whether to reduce the throw 35% or 50%.... I don't know why I would only reduce it 35% when I can reduce it 50% with the bottom pin hole?!!!!... as far as I can see 50% would be beter, correct?!... any thoughts are appreciated.

Yeh, M.

Try the 35%. You'll think you're not getting into gear for the first week, because of how much it changes from what you're used to.

I've not tried the 50%, because I didn't feel any need to. but it must be insane.

And if you haven't yet, drain the trans and refill with Pennzoil Synchromesh.

The B&M short shift is perhaps the single greatest add-on to a base DSM.

I don't see any reason to unless there is a lot of sloppy play in your shifter while in gear. They definately tighten things up and make shifts feel more precise.

HTH,
Spidey

just curious , i still have stock shifter and was thinking of shorty. Do yuo have any pics or know where i can pick a 50% one up at for a decent price ?

Metal bushings on the shifter plates, metal bearings on the shifter cables (transmission side). I'll never go back to factory setup :thumb:

i also went to a Symborski Shift kit. I think it made a noticable difference, less grinding. It does making shifting a little louder but welllllllll worth it.

I'm going to order the b+m short shifter, poly-urethane bushings, and greddy knob from RRE. Then the under-the-hood bushings from DSMparts. Where can you find this Penzzoil Syncromesh, Pepboys here doesn't have shit, I know NAPA is pretty good, Autozone is whack, maybe Kragen.

Oh yeah about the short shifter, does it shorten the throw and the height or just the throw. My dad bought a Kart-Boy short shifter for his WRX and his did both. I hate the height of the shifter and I was just wondering if it does lower the height as well, if not then whatever I can live with it.

Try the next AutoZone over, it should be on the shelf.

The B&M is about an inch shorter. The length becomes academic once the short throw is in there.

Yes, they're expensive. And damn it, they're worth it. RRE had the best price I'd seen until this eBay ad.
