Wow, what a difference... I can't seem to figure out how to install the metal bearings on the shifter cables though, they seem way too big.

I was actually going to buy the OBX, but Defiant amoung many others advised AGAINST it, many have found problems with it. All I can say is I love the B&N, don't know about the others... not sure if B&N does a 1G, but they should.

Pilot makes one for the very early, but I've never looked into making a B&M work. The shifters are different, but I don't know to what extent. I don't know why B&M haven't gone ahead and done a 1G.
 
Does anyone have one of these for their 2g eclipse? Is it a good buy and what kind of improvements did you see? How much shorter is it than stock? Also, where is a good place to buy one?

RRE has had the best price historically, at $155. There was just an auction on eBay for $140, but I didn't think to check the shipping. When they come up used, they're gone before you hear about it.

They're expensive, and worth every penny of it.

They're about 1" shorter, but that's not the payoff.

One of the best mods that I put on my NT. You loose the yellow school bus shifter and get one hell of short shifter. I had one problem with mine and that was the bolt snapped on it. B&M overnighted one to me that day.

it's a pretty good upgrade from the stock shifter, many will say they like the 35 instead of the 50, but i got so used to the 50, i wish it was shorter :(

but all in all it's not bad, a little pricey though. bought mines for 125 off eBay, good price, im guessing everywhere else is 150 and up.

instructions said it takes about an hour to do, LOL i did it under 15 minutes, very easy to do, comes with two stickers and washers, clips, and lock tight liquid. but like i said, im so used to it now, i wish there was a 100% option hahahahha ok. :rolleyes:

The 1Gs are too old. If B&M had gone into the import scene sooner than they had, they might have made one for the 1Gs. Just did a quick search and I couldn't find any pilot dealers selling the 1G shifter... chances are it's not even in production.
 
I just ordered one of the short shifters off of that ebay link from one of the more recent auctions. Not bad, 156 shipped, only a dollar more than RRE wants for it outright. :cool:

What is the real difference between a b&m and a ebay special shifter. I know b&m is the way to go, but will the cheap one $%^& my tranny. :cry: like b&m claims it will. I have so many projects with my car right now that I just want to go the cheap route for now. If anyone know of problems PLEASE let me know.
 
If you go cheap you'll pay later. A B&M is only like a $160 from rre. A hundred dollars more for one of the best ones on the market? I'd just spend the money and save the time in the long run.
 
It might not mess up your tranny because as long as you shift correct you won't have a problem. But with how cheap these things are and the wide amount of complaints, why hassle yourself? Good luck though
 
Let me tell you about the cheap one since I had both.

1. The cheap one had more play than a 2 dollar hooker.
2. Shifting into third I broke one of the welds and the shifter snapped clean in half.

I know have the B&M and am ashamed I wasted the money on the cheap one.

I will sell you my re-welded cheap one (stronger than when it was made) for only 40 plus shipping and you can see how shitty it is.
 
Nah ill pass, i like it tighter. O.K. got it ill just wait. Good things come with time. I know that on some cars you cant tell a diffence.
