Could you post where exactly you had to grind it. Like post that 4caroption pic with an arrow to it if it's too hard to describe. Was there just some extra bits of metal on the edge or something, or did you have to shave down the whole surface? Thanks.
here is the picture showing where i had to use the dremel. sorry for not replying sooner. let me know if you have any questions.

i bought one of those b&m replicas on ebay, too and it works perfect
as "clipse0001" mentioned, i had to grind of a small part of it too at the same spot
besides that, instalation takes less than 15 min.

Megan Racing makes some quality parts at a steal of a price. As for being able to discern between the two makes, I'm sure there are distinguishing characteristics such as color, markings, etc. that will allow you to tell them apart.

Wow this is an old thread. My girlfriend didn't know who made it because she got it on ebay and know nothing about cars. Anyways, I figured out that it is the Megan one. Works great. I followed the B&M installation instructions from their website. The shifter shortened the throw, lowered the knob, and it is a quality piece for sure. Only complaint is the metal shift knob gets hot in the summer, but i like to use my stock knob anyways.

Yes your stock shifter will fit with a megan racing piece. I use my stock shift knob, but I want to get the greddy counter-weight as it looks better and is a little bit shorter. Should be perfect. Although I do hate the cold/warm of metal knobs. Thats why there are driving gloves...

how does anyone feel about the dsm short shifters on ebay should i go with the ebay one or spend more money and get the real thing

The ebay short shifter that looks exactly like the b&m also works exactly the same for $120 less.

It's the same as the real thing just for less.
I got one and I love it.:thumb:

I got the B&M before the knockoffs were available on e-bay. Recently a buddy bought an e-bay knockoff and I swear I can NOT tell the difference other than he had an extra $100 more left over than I did.

Could someone provide an ebay link to the b&m knockoff. I saw this one awhile ago on ebay, now when i search for b&m short shifters i got the authenic product and not the knockoff.

Also, out of curiousity, does anyone know if the stock shift knob (stock 2g shift knob that is) will fit the threads of the b&m knockoff?

I have that exact shifter, it works great and it feels like I can shift just as fast as an auto.
But and it comes with a big but, I had to re-engineer it so it would work.
First off:
The "pivot point rod" is screwed into the shifter. So, by using your imagination you can guess what happened, it unscrewed during shifting and became wobbly. Cold weld (a two part automotive resin) fixed this problem. It has a tensile strength of 30,000 psi (I believe).

Second:
It did not come with a bearing to fit inside the "pivot point raiser" (purple thing). The "pivot point rod" has a smaller diameter than the bore in the "pivot point raiser", so that was loose and wobbly. I had to make my own bearing out of two brass tubes and grease.

The tubes can be found at hobby shops or at a hardware store (found mine at ace)
If you get it, well, good luck! :thumb:

Edit: or you could find actual bearings to fit inside, I did not look into this option for some reason.

you must have the fidanza knock off. i had one of those too and it sucked.

i have a b&m replica now and its perfect.

I have the B&M knockoff shifter and it works decently, I also have the shifter cable rollerblade mod, a ss clutch line, and the polyurethane shift plate mod as well. However in my opinion the eclipse still has a sub-par shifter feel. I still love my dsm to death, but wish the shift feel was up to par with the rest of the performance of the car. But don't waste your money on the 'real' b&m, the shifter is just a metal rod with some nuts on it..

I bought the B&M replica, i guess i just got jipped. But i guess thats the risk you take when buying stuff from ebay.
But hey, after 4-5 hours for trying to figure out what to do and three set up days, it works just fine. They made me work for that $120 i saved. ROFL
