B&M and clone short shifter 2nd gen eBay Megan [Merged 3-7]

I bought the car with this shifter already in it. Just trying to identify if it's a B&M or not. Well I could buy a B&M and just put this one in my RS.. :)

Don't buy that shifter make sure its from these guys. 4caroption short shifter. It uses your stock knob and is almost an exact B&M replica. I love mine

This one is great as i've been using that one for awhile. After a year with it and a season of racing it shifts just fine. Installing it was also easy. Please do not waste your money (unless you have lots of it to spend, and you care about having name brand$) on a B&M. Those are expensive, and the Ebay one will do the job just fine. :thumb: :dsm:

Thats the one Iv been using for about 5 months now and I like it. Some say they break or dont fit properly, eh those people are gibbons. It fits great, better then the B&M one my friend has that rattles a bit.

I've heard nothing but good about the B&M short shifter, so I am in the market for one. My question is I've heard a few people say that one of the things that they like about the shifter is the click they hear/feel when they shift. Can someone tell me what this is all about? What causes this click, and is it audible or do you simply feel it click into gear? If it's audible, are there any videos of it?

Get the shifter bushings too - easy to install with the short shifter. I also got the underhood bushings for the shifter cable but those were a pain in the ass to press in. (heavy duty C-clamp and some serious strength - after removing the intake pipe to get at the shifter cables)

As for the sound, I don't think the shifter has much of an effect over stock for me. I think it's the bushings that give it a distinct clunk-clunk when I shift. With the shifter-bushing combo, the shifter play is greatly reduced - everything feels very solid.

I actually have the shifter bushings, both at the shifter and under the hood, and they don't make any kind of noise when I shift. I just thought it was interesting when some people were saying that they liked the "nice click sound" when they shifted, but I was curious as to why it would click.

I recently installed the shifter bushings, and now I get the click when the gear is engaged. I would imagine that it's because the rubber bushings in the shifter base were replaced with metal ones (being Captain Obvious). I'm not really nuts about the clicking, but it's a trade off that I'm willing to make for a better feel when shifting.

Hmm.. maybe it is the shifter then. Since I installed the shifter & bushings at the same time I couldn't tell you which made the difference, but there is definitely a distinct difference between my GSX with bushings & B&M shifter over my stock RS.

ok so if you had to choose between the the to bushing kits would you go with the ones under the hood or the ones in the shifter base

Shifter base for two reasons.
1. They're MUCH easier to install.
2. They're better at tightening the throws.

The underhood bushings only have a slight effect on the tightness of the throws and smoothness of the throws (rollerblade ball bearings over the stock rubber/copper bearing).

just posting this to tell everyone about the ebay "ralliart" short shifter. I got it for 40 bucks and it is great. It IS the exact replica of the B&M at a fraction of the cost. If i had the money i would have gotten the B&M but its a lil over my budget for just a shifter. This shifter has no side to side play and the shifts are 35 or 50% shorter (its adjustable) like the B&M one. I can's say on how long it will last me but the weld on the shaft seems to be pretty solid. The only problem i had with the install is that the fitment of that "purple part" ( have no idea what to call it -- its the thing that connects the shifter itself to the assembly which is purple with B&M and green with the one i got) is not perfect so i had to grind it down about half a millimeter using a dremel. i will post something a little later about how it is doing, but so far its great.

I have the same shifter and its awesome. I've had it for about a month and its holding up fine. Also have the under hood bushings replaced with rollerblade bearings and the shifts are very short and crisp. I didn't have any issues with the install and did not have to modify anything.

Can both of you guys please post who you bought it from on ebay or a link to the one you bought. Any pics would be great too.

Could you post where exactly you had to grind it. Like post that 4caroption pic with an arrow to it if it's too hard to describe. Was there just some extra bits of metal on the edge or something, or did you have to shave down the whole surface? Thanks.
