Axle Seal install question

Does the little notch on my axle seal have anything to do with the way it's supposed to be installed? Also, is it okay to put a little RTV around the edge of the seal?

before you remove the old seal, notice the orientation, i.e how its placed. Then place new seal the same way.

No. Yore making an assumption that the old seal is correct. Look inside the seal. Youll notice a hole on the outer lip. This goes down. Factory service manual tells you this. (Hint)

i have both manuals and in neither does it dictate the orientation of the seal, but since my assumption is a logical one i assume it would be facing upwards "towards the sky" if so that would be the correct orientation.
further more, that seal is for the drivers side front, and use grease upon installation. And make sure it all the way snug inside.

Open a factory manual. I dont have an electronic copy. This is how I figured it out 20 yrs ago. If that notch references something I do not recall that.

Okay I installed it with the notch on top. I'll know tomorrow when I fill the trans again if it still leaks. Thanks for all the help.
