I damaged this seal when prying out my passenger side drive axle on my 97 Spyder GS. Does anyone know the Mitsubishi part number for this item? What exactly is this seal called? An axle or oil seal?

I looked at a few axle seals at Advance Auto and it doesn't look like the same part as the part that I need to replace.

I seemed to have banged up this surface when removing the axle. Is this damage going to pose a problem?

I think it will be okay. As long as that inner lip is still round you should be okay. Is that from prying on it to get the axle out?

You may have to file these spots down that I put red arrows on. Run your finger around that inner shiny part and see if it feels ROUND. If its NOT round then you better smooth it out till it feels round.

If you want to be sure it doesnt leak you can put a small ring of RTV silicone gasket maker around the OUTER lip. DO not put it on the inner lip where tha axle slides in,

Thanks, I ended up taking the edge off with a dremel tool. The lip feel smoother now and I was able to easily installed the new seal.

Was gonna recommend that because with the lip there the seal would have been a pain to get on. Also why didn't you use the pry spot on the axleshaft to remove it... thats what it is there for.

I looked for a spot to pry on but didn't see one. It was a royal pain to remove the passenger side axle, I ended up removing the tranny with the axle still in and then used a 3' pry bar and a 5 lb sled hammer. It took a good 12 to 15 hard blows to get it to pop out.

The driver side axle popped out with a lot less effort.

There is a spot to pry on each side of the inner axleshaft joint. Its kind of hard to descibe, but I don't think I have ever seen an axleshaft that doesn't bolt on without them.

Thanks for the quick replies!

You guys saved me a Sh_t ton of money! (well not a ton but every little bit helps!)
