So i replaced my bad throw out bearing after i forgot to replace it when i did my new clutch last month and now im spitting transmission fluid out the passengers side axle. Im assuming it is the axle seal so im in the process of replacing it right now. My problem is that the seal part came out fine, but the metal ring that holds the seal will not come out of the trans. Every time i try to pry it out, the metal just bends or breaks through. If anyone has any helpful ideas to get this thing out please let me know im really stuck right now. The car is a 97 mitsubishi eclipse rs. Thanks in advance.

They make a special seal puller tool but usually a dental pick type will do. One that will reach behind the seal and pull on the thicker metal of the seal side. You can take a hammer and a thin screwdriver and try to collapse the ring. All you need to do is to bend it in enough that you can get the screwdriver all the way behind the outer diameter and pry it out or you can grab it with some pliers and pull it out. If that doesn't work then you will have to try to move around the seal and do it in a couple of spots. If you can tap the seal around in the seat then it should come out. Careful and don't get too heavy with the hammer because you could nick something.
