Leaking Axle Seal After Clutch Install

I got a new ACT2600 clutch, Xact Fly, and SS line installed on Thursday. Yesterday, I noticed some spots of transmission fluid that leaked onto the garage floor. The shop that installed the clutch was closed yesterday....so I took it to a local garage to have it checked. I looks like the axle seal is leaking...kind-of hard to tell though...tranny fluid was blown halfway down the underside of car...

What will it take to replace an axle seal? Do they need to take the whole axle apart? Is this something that they should cover as part of the clutch install--or could they claim that the seal just went bad and that now I need to pay to replace it?

I am really hoping that this is something that they could do quick tomorrow morning, as I am supposed to get new tires and rims put on tomorrow afternoon.

To change the axle seal they would have to pop out the axle and replace the seal on the tranmission. With the right tools and knowledge it should take long at all.

They probably should cover it as more then likely they damaged it poping the axle out, but more then likely you will have to fight abit to get them to do it. Shouldn't take to long to change, just have to take apart some of the suspension components & pop it out. This is why is always a good idea to replace parts like these while you are in there. Saves time and money in the long run.
 
You've found out why I preach seal replacement during these types of jobs (especially timing belt jobs). The seal is NOT a standard part to be replaced and most shops won't do it unless you ask. As stated, it's not a hard job, unbolt the lower half of the front suspension and pull the axels out. Replace the seals...re-install.

However, another $10 max worth of parts with about 15 extra minutes of time and you would not be leaking.

While the tranny was out you should have also done the rear crank seal.
 
I hate to disagree but the ds axle seal is not that easy of a job. At least on an AWD car. I would take it back and say"before it came in here they were not leaking, and after you worked on my car they are leaking". Most reputable shops will fix the problem.
 
If you do it yourself be carefull when putting the axle back in. They probably damaged the seal putting it back in not taking it out. Make sure you dont rest anything on the rubber part that goes around the seal. Ive done these many times and have messed up new seals. Buy oem seals if possible they are much better than other brands.
