I have a spare low KM AWD tranny and a FWD in need of a rebuild(3rd grinds). Can I just swap all the AWD gears into the FWD tranny? THANX

Can anyone help this guy out or give us some knowledge??? I am in the same boat where i have every gear for an awd and need a new 3rd gear in my fwd tranny. If any one has any knowledge on this help me out!!! Thanks :)

As far as I know you can not just swap out the gearing.

The way I have it done is I have a 95 tsi awd manual trans installed into my GST. You have to replace the starter plate, replacethe FWD flywheel with the AWD, change out the axles, and find a Welded or get one welded Center Diff.

The transfer case is not used in the FWD application. There will be a hole that is open on the bottom side of the transmission. I have been driving it for awhile along with a buddy of mine that has the same setup and NOTHING has gotten inside.

TRE takes the output shaft out of there AWD/FWD tranny and a few other tricks that I cannot see. But basically, if I was to do the conversion I would have to reopen the TRE tranny to replace a few things which is no biggie.

For more reference on the AWD tranny in a FWD car, do a search for the AWD conversion. They tell you everything you need from the tranny back. Just stop your lists before the transfer case is listed.

Hope I helped.

Or you can use a AWD tranny from a Galant VR-4... aka the infamous JDM tranny, they have a screw on the bottom of them that can turn to make it a FWD tranny....

I am thinking of rebuilding my tranny anyone know where i can find some racing syncros and other stronger parts for my DSM tranny so it is not like glass?

www.Teamrip.com or www.shepracing.com

I don't know if Shep sells seperate parts, but I KNOW TRE does. Take a look at the sites.

TRE gets a :thumb: from me. I dealt with them when I rebuilt my tranny and they know thier stuff. As far as putting AWD gearing in your FWD you'll need the everything from inside the AWD tranny for it to work. Since the gears are different the input shaft and intermediate shaft are different, you'll need both for it to work. Your best bet is to just replace what's wrong with your tranny and sell the AWD crap. AWD gearing wouldn't really be beneficial and would just cause more wheelspin because of the more aggressive ratio.
