i tryed resaeching this but only came up with2gs.

my project car is at my buddies house (90 gsx w/22 spline) but is stuck in gear..i have a fwd tranny from a 92 laser 2.0nt..my question is once i replaced the shifter base and cable then replaced the fylwheel is there anything else i'm missing?

i was just at the junkyard even the 1.8 trannies are on the right side(sittinginside car)...they don't makes a n/t awd tranny but my question was can i put a ......fwd 5spd tranny where my awd tranny now sits? just to drive it home. since the fwd tranny is out of a 92 i have to change the flywheel, the shifter base and cable....whatelse?

i'n doing this i KNOW i wont have awd but i 'll just pull driveshaft

one last question my cars a 22 spline.....if i bought a 23 spline along with transfer case would i be fine?
will my driveshaft workk?

thanks guys
josh

One the 1G's the trans is on the passenger side. You can install a FWD trans in your AWD car. Since it is not a turbo car your flywheel and starter plate will work. You will have to drop the t case and pull the drive shaft. The passenger side axle is the same but you will need to install the FWD drivers axle because the axle seal is different and the AWD axle will leak in a FWD trans. Just note if it is a 1.8 F5m21 trans a turbo car will eat them up pretty fast.

so just a ds axle?....thanks bro...i was getting a 2.0n/t fwd trans

do u happen to know anythig about the splines?..

again thanks man

you cant use the transfer case. the drive shaft and transfer case have to come totally out of the car. again your using a fwd trans in awd so theres no place for the t-case to bolt up

The splines are the same size on the axles, but the clutch and flywheel are different, and depending on what transmission you use, your intermediate shaft probably won't fit either. I'm in the process of doing the opposite swap, and I noticed that the front diff is further back in an AWD. You'll probably have to run the N/T "long" driver side axle.

What's different about the shifter?

90 and 91+ shifter bases and cables are totally diffrent and can not interchange Visual Frequently Answered Questions - Home Page if you look on that sites theres the shifter bases side by side sorry i miss read your other post. if you buy the input shaft and 23 spline t case it you will be fine but if the 22 is fine leave it. ive got a 22 spline and its fine point being if its not broke and theres no wear on the shaft dont worry about it

thank you guys sooooooo much....everyone loves awd but there just to expensive to fix.

all my questions were anwered, you guys really helped me out.thanks

I dont think you need to change the actual shifter base. You need to change the cables and the little bracket on the trans that holds them. I had a 90 trans in a 92 but it was awd to awd. Youll need a fwd flywheel as well. Youll probably need the long driver fwd axle as well as you should use the fwd slave as well

. . .Youll need a fwd flywheel as well . . .

No, though the flywheels are different parts, the N/T FWD flywheel ring gear is the same diameter as the AWD. Thus the starter will engage correctly with either the n/t flywheel or the AWD flywheel. N/T guys that swap on turbos (or not) enjoy the benefits of less rotating mass at the clutch and flywheel than FWD turbo guys :) .

Now you can't put an n/t pressureplate on a turbo flywheel, it won't "clutch" the clutch disk. But awd and fwd turbo clutchs are the same.
