Does any one know what the average price is to change headgasket on a 2g. thanks

Have you ruled out doing it yourself? It doesn't take long and it isn't complicated.

The last shop I worked at would've charged about $200-$300 for the job. They priced high, but their work was solid - so I'd be weary of places that did things for much less.

I just really dont know how to do it.

If you could get the car to Ft. Lauderdale I'd do it for ya. :D

All you really need to do is look for everything that is connected to the head... the intake and exhaust manifolds, a few sensors, vacuum tubes... look for everything that is connected and carefully and methodically remove it.

Then take off the valve cover (there are about eight or so bolts holding it in from the top). Once you do that, you'll see the head studs holding down the whole head, remove those and the head will come off with some tugging. You'll finally be able to see the culprit, and put a new one. After that, do everything in reverse.

You don't really gain much confidence in your mechanical skills until you start pulling things apart. Afterward, you'll feel like you can fix anything.

I can understand your hesitation though, if you still don't feel comfortable doing it, then look around for some place that's established and trustworthy.
