Ive done a little searching but haven't quite found anything that answered my questions. I was wondering what all the power/economy button does. What are the differences between the two modes? I remember reading somewhere a very long time ago that when in the power mode, you get a boost increase of 2-3lbs. Is that true? What else does it do? How much of a difference does it make in gas mileage?

Hmm. I shift through every gear manually just because automatics are boring and I like to have that added control to where I shift when I want. So I guess doing that 100% of the time, I wasn't able to notice.

For example, I start in first, shift to second around 15-20 mph, the to drive around 40-45 mph, then push the over drive button when at 55-60. Depending on how hard I want to drive it. If I am just cruising on the streets, then I just shift at 3K RPM in each gear.

I will try driving in drive and see if I can tell a difference. If we could get more replies in here, that'd be great. Hopefully someone can tell me if the added 2-3lbs of boost when in "power" mode is fact or fiction.

i think it has to do with the tranny shift points, on eco it will shift ealier, and power it shifts at higher RPMS to build more power.

correct me if im worng.

He's right all the power button does is really change the shift points in the tranny, but you gotta really have it floored to make a difference..You can drive around all day in the power mode and it don't hurt your gas milage with normal driving..But when you step on it and rev the shit out if it, then yes it will hurt your gas milage, but you knew that part..

Thank you for clearing that up. What do you 1G auto guys run in while daily driving? Power or Economy?

if im in the mood to get where im going right now im in power, but if im just cruising lazily im usually in economy. you dont have to be WOT to notice the different shift points, if you just ease on the throttle in power it defiantly revs a few hundred more RPMs before shifting than if you were in economy

Ya +2 on the how I'm feeling that day..I usually just keep it on power unless, I'm just putzing around town..I live in a very small town so I can just putz around..If you want to shift manually in your auto try thins link out.. RoadSurge.com

Damn. That's F-in awesome. How hard is it to hook one of those up?

Its super simple dude..It comes with instructions..It's not hard at all..If you get it and can't figure it out pm me..And if you don't want to spend the money theres a tech article on how to make one that's not as badass..I can give you the link, but I would suggest the road surge one..

I have mine stuck(purposefully) in power. I've heard that economy slips more when it switches thru the gears and eats up the the tranny fluid faster. Don't quote me, but thats what I was told.

I think I might get one of those shift boxes, IPT has them too.

What do you mean eats up tranny fluid..I drove mine as an auto for 3 years, never had a problem with eating up tranny fluid in eco..And you know all you have to do is push the button, you don't have to have it stuck in power..Unless you have problems with the switch popping out and back into eco..

PWR/ECO button is for the lockup torque converter.

PWR unlocks it and ECO locks it up when it hit's 4th gear.

My little 1.8 auto DD has the same tranny config.

I leave it in ECO for DD driving.

Try flooring it in eco and see where it shifts.then try power floored and see where it shifts..It should be the same in your n/t as it is in the turbo 1g's..

I was always under the assumption that the power/eco button raised the boost level, now that I actually own one, I know it does not, and in my case it is utterly useless because i run an IPT trans/translab shift kit.

Nothing wrong with bumping an old thread if you are on topic.

Guitarkid, my advice is to keep it on Economy and switch to Power when you want to. Sometimes I'll leave it on Power for extended periods but usually will switch it to Power only for the brief periods when I floor it, then it goes right back to Economy.
