I have a 96 gst auto trans with 197k. Trans has never given me any issues and never leaked a drop of fluid. Yesterday I was driving and during hard acceleration it slipped out of gear. I pulled over and put it in neutral then back into drive and it drove fine. Later I came to a hard stop and then at around 5mph during braking it jerked then stalled. I stopped. Checked the fluid and it was fine. It restarted fine then drove home about 15 miles fine. I started it today and it reversed out of my parking space but then would not go into drive or any other gear including reverse. The shifter feels a little looser than it had before. Im going to check the cable when I get home from work. Any advice on how to check the cable and other things it could be would be helpful. Thank you.

I would def. check the shifter cables first, at 197k though that might of been the last time the transmission works, might be in need of a rebuild now.
