2G 4th gear is weird and won't go into reverse

I'm new to the DSM community so go easy on me.

Just picked up a 2g Eclipse GSX. Tranny and transfer case were rebuilt before I got it. Everything runs good except when I shift into 4th at relatively high RPMs it's rough going in and the RPMs jump up as if I downshifted instead. Also occasionally it grinds when I shift into reverse.

I've tried looking at other posts about similar issues however, none of them are as specific to my issues. Thank you

About 4,000-4,500. Keep in mind I also own a mustang so that's high for me

Its stock. And I looked through the maintenance records and found that the flywheel, 3rd and 4th gear synchos, along with multiple other shifter accessories were replaced back in 04. So possibly its time for new ones?

No issues at lower rpms? Shift linkage adjusted, bushings good?

It goes into 4th easy in low rpms but they still jump up once its in 4th. Not sure about shift linkage and bushing I'll need to check that this weekend. Also I kinda fixed reverse grinding by shifting into 4th at a stop and then reverse.

When you put in 4th does it immediately jump out with slight grinding noise or does it just not going into gear? With the reverse issue (co-insiding with for mention 4th gear issue) try cable and bushings first I believe correct if miss spoken been 2 years since I replaced my bushings and cables (there are two distinct cables) 4th and reverse are on the same cable side along with second try the cable if there is play then replace it, it's usual a dealer only item at least here in syracuse have fun with the firewall if you do replace cables

No, there is no grinding its just real hard to get it in gear compared to the rest of the gears. And when I finally get it in, the rpms spike up like I'm downshifting. How much does bushings and cables cost?

Sounds like clutch drag and the rpm issue clutch slipping....sounds opposite but it isn't. Clutch drag meaning you aren't fully disengaging for reverse. Clutch slipping in 4th. You're fully engaged and when you lean into it it slips. If rpms shot up under load but the car behaves normally otherwise that's indicative of a slipping clutch typically. A look at clutch adjustment is in order also.
