Auto tranny problem?

Car is 93 talon automatic n/t and sometimes wont go into 4th or overdrive.It goes into neutral. Understand might be the end clutch needs rebuilt. Have read a bit on searches and am wondering how hard it is for average home mechanic to do. Have done a bunch of other stuff but only changed filter and fluid when it comes to trans. Anyone know what a tranny shop might charge that is a fair price. Not sure if I'm gonna do it or not yet? Any advice would be appreciated!

dont cut yourself short...auto trans are tricky...but if you have the know-how then do it..tranny shop=800.00

Don't be wimp and do it yourself takes atmost 1 hour for a complete noob to change the clutch disks and 5 min to take the old pack out and 5 to reinstall it why pay a greasy mechanic which will likely say its something else and quote you $500 when you can get a new end clutch kit from IPT transmissions for $80.

So I take it not hard to do and a couple people have done it. I'll order parts and get busy. Always do it myself if practical on anything and dont like giving money away. Will post results after done. Be working in carport this weekend since its 70degrees here, hows Canada?

Got parts on monday at 3:30 and had everyting done by 9:00. Everthing was pretty basic like I read but was a real pita to get the snap ring back on after changing seals. Would be nice to have right tool for the job but had to rig some bs up and took 45 min to get a stupid ring on. The car is doing great and fixed the o/d problem thanks to all the DSM info.
