2g auto tranny problem

Well, a couple of days ago my tranny slipped a couple times then drove fine untill today, then today after driving for a bit my car would not shift out of 1st gear when i gave it 1/2 throttle from a stop but if i eased on it from a stop it would shift through 1st then i wouldnt shift through 2nd, we put some lucas tranny fix in and drove it for a bit but it was still messed up and wouldnt shift. I drove to my house which is about 25 miles from where we put the lucas in and left my car sit about an hour then took it back out for a drive and it drove fine. What could be making it do this, my uncle said it could have been a peice of dirt or something in the valve, my car just rolled over 85k miles today.

When was the last time you changed the fluid or the filter on it?

Could be heat, could be lack of fluid, could be the selinoid going out. I would say, do checks in this order. Check for clean fluid and or the right ammount of fluid. To check for fluid, let the car get to operating temp and then shift it thought all the gears and then back to neutral, then check the fluid.

If you have not changed the fluid and filter, might be a good idea to do so. If that does not clear up the problem, then it could be your selinoid going out. I think its $199 to replace it ( thats just the parts ).

Also one or more of your clutches may be starting to go out so if you pull of the pan to change the filter and there is alot of material in it there's a clutch going out. Here's something that you can try out though from a stop put the vehicle in the lowest gear selection and then shift up from there while your accelerating and if there is no slip it is your forward clutch if it still slips it may be a solenoid or possibly a clogged up passage in your valve body.

From what I have experienced with my auto. Is that once problems like this occur and then seem to just go away. It always comes back and bites you in the ass. If I were you get it to an Auto trans shop ASAP.

I agree i have my auto tranny now with an IPT Rebuild kit / IPT Valve Body / Translab Shift Kit. I got those parts because my tranny was doing pretty much what yours is doing cept mine did it through all the gears and when it shifted it slammed into the next gear. This actually even tore my motor mounts up which you might wanna keep an eye on as well.

So once i figure out what it is i could just get that particular part fixed instead of buying a new transmission/rebuild if i dont need too?

Well ya you could but if your gunna take the trouble of taking your tranny apart to put that stuff in you might as well just save for a little while and really do the job right.. Its almost more practical if you think of it. If your going upgrade in the future your gunna have to pay for the tranny being taken out and taken apart again.

In my opinion you should just get the whole thing done right and get it all over with.

I was in your same situation too by the way. I was trying to find out what it was... i took it to 3 places and at the final place they told me finaly that it was something electrical. So i spent 900$ got all the things i needed from IPT and rebuilt it. I am VERY happy with it and i know i dont have to worry about it breaking.

Well heres the deal, i took my car to one of the local tranny places and they gave it a diagnostic, nothing came back for the tranny but there is burnt tranny fluid, the only thing that came back was the turbo wastegate selinoid, i told them i didnt have it on my car because i have a aftermarket boost controller and they said that i still had to get it fixed. So, if nothing came back on the tranny then what could it be thats not making it shift out of 1st and burning the fluid?
