ok guys, may seem stupid to you guys, but i am looking into a 2g auto eclipse, either a gst or gsx. not sure if i want fwd or awd yet. my only "goals" would to be as "powerful" (as much, if not a lil more hp) as a stock evo8 and be as "quick/fast" (0-60/ 1/4 mile) as a stock evo8. at, lets say, 300hp, automatic, would a fwd gst be good or would i indeed spin the tires too much?

i know if i wanted a 10 sec 500 hp dsm i'd def go with awd, but at 300 hp im not sure if awd will be that big of a player as far as 1/4mile times go.

idk if you guys understand the question as well as i intended, but please help me make a decision guys! id love a gsx, but if i can do just as well with 300hp with fwd, i'd like to avoid the "extra" weight, drivetrain loss and maintenance with the awd.

Being as fast as a stock Evo in the quarter is possible in either FWD or AWD. AWD is just going to make it a lot easier though. A 300 whp auto GST won't get you where you want to be without slicks and an LSD and good driving. In a GSX at 300 whp you have a better shot.

i know it has to do alot with the driver, and wheel spin/hop in a fwd will get burnt off the line buy a same hp awd, but in an auto would 300hp break the front tires loose enough to where awd is needed to acheive stock evo #s?

It's never really needed, there are fast fwd dsms as well, awd is just much easier and much more versatile. I've run tens with both, and awd is just easier to deal with. Fwd you have to look more into suspension set ups, tires, maybe something like boost by gear, e.c.t to maximize traction. For 300hp a GS-T would be good, just put a good set of tires on it, and off you go. If you can find an awd, get an awd. If you can't a GS-T for only 300hp is good too. With the current goal you have in mind, i would just find the nicest well kept after dsm you can find.

Yep, I'd focus on looking for something well taken care of regardless if it was FWD or AWD. Something to think about, if you achieve 300whp in either, you're probably going to want more. That's generally the nature of the beast. AWD will give you a really good future platform though. The added traction more than makes up for the few extra 100lbs of weight. It also is great for driving in snow and rain. The weight distribution in a FWD DSM is definitely a challenge because you've got the weight of the motor and driver on one side of the car making it easy for the passenger tire to take over and spin. However, as I'm learning, there are ways of combating FWD traction and they're still a blast to drive.

A DSM is a DSM at the end of the day and you'll have fun with either.

If you're buying a DSM the last thing you should be concerned with is what is "needed".

Go AWD or regret it.

if u just want want a nice looking car that has some balls for the street . go gst. if ## seriously going to put a lot of money into ## project , go gsx. thats all there is to it.

I agree with everyone that said you don't NEED a AWD. They are correct. But AWD would be much easier to reach your goals.

Besides 300WHP with FWD means a LOT of torque steer. Just not as easy to drive.
