1G Are these cam seals right?

I put these cam seals in my 92 Eclipse GS 2.0 I got from rockauto but that gap between the shaft and the ID of the seal does not look right. shouldn't that ID be right on the shaft?

What I find weird about the SKF listing is that they state compatibility only for 93-97 years, but MD372536 is for all 4g63.
The inner diameter of the seal is actually very thin and makes contact with the camshaft. The exterior lip there does not.

Yeah thanks for weighing in! Since posting I've realized the original application was a double lip seal which would close that gap I took the picture for. For some reason several single lip seals crossover to this application which is stupid. My local parts stores only had similar single lip seals on hand so I just ordered the Schaeffler ones on rock auto and will resume when I get back from the beach next week.
