I bearly ran these pistons for three weeks when one night my timming skipped and the intake vavles hit my pistons.
What I want to know if these pistons are still good.
They should be, right?
:sosad:

Could we get some better pics please? Also do you know why your timing skipped? That would be a valuable peice of information. By looking at the pic you have there right now it looks like their ok...BUT more detailed pics would be more appropriate. Another question..how did it skip like driving 70 or just idling? See what I'm sayin? Later Sam

Pistons are ok. Go to vfaq.com or get a good service manual. I prefer the factory manuals myself. You need to send the head off to have repairs done as I doubt you can cut seats and replace valve guides which probably are damaged from the contact.

Get the head fixed and then replace the timing belt, auto tensioner, water pump, and idlers. Do a balance shaft elimination as they are sometimes the reason the belt jumps teeth. This is a lot of stuff to replace, however all except the water pump can cause new belt to jump and then you have to pull the head again. Water pump because you can't change it without pulling the timing belt.

Take care.

Yah as long as the pistons aren't cracked you are alright. My buddies eclipse did the same thing and it ran just fine he was really worried about it but he hasn't had any problems since.

the pistons look fine....When my timing belt blew I bent ALL my valves (was at WOT when it happened). I had dents and scrapes but no cracks in the piston. It has been about 7 months and everything is OK...... :thumb:

Those look good, from what i can see anyways. Check cylinder walls for any irregular scoring, if the piston crack chances are it would have left some very ugly wear marks.

I know my buddy bought a turbo motor, and we tore it down for a rebuild to stick in his ESi. Turns out the motor had a blown timing belt, ended up taking out the head of a valve and sticking it right through the piston and cracking it as well. Rebuilt the motor with fresh bore/pistons/valves and she runs smooth as baby's rear! :)

You can probably get away with just replacing whats broken in the head, from what i see anyways.

Guess there's really no way to know 100% until you put the head back on and then check compression across all 4. If within specs then procede with the rebuild, if compression doesn't check out then may as well invest in a long block depending on your budget but listen to the Old Mits tech because he is telling you what parts needs to be replaced.

to check your rings you could pour oil in all the cylinders and let it sit over night. if the level stays the same then you should be good to go. try to get the pistons in the same place and pour the same amount in each one. easy to figure out huh?
