I'm being offered a 1992 eclipse gsx with the following issues for $3000:

- Turbo not working
- Black and blue smoke from the exhaust when over 3000rpm
- Idles at 1500rpm
- Transmission leaks oil
- Engine leaks oil
- 1 damaged engine mount

The interior is in good condition, the body needs some paint but it's in good condition.

Am I getting ripped off? How much money would it take (approximate, I know it's impossible to get a close value without physical examination) to get it fixed?

I wouldn't give that much. Engine rebuild, transmission repairs, new turbo, paint job. All you're really buying is a shell. Sounds like it's been beat to death.

Probably needs brakes and struts, air doesn't work or has probably been removed.

At least it's got a nice interior you can enjoy.

Offer him $500 as is, or have him repair everything.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiipppppppppppp ooooooooooffffffffffffffffff. I have found some 1gs with fairly low miles for that price.

I wouldn't even pay that if it was running properly. I'd consider $1200 tops.

Thanks for your replies. The owner didn't want to lower the price. Needless to say I walked away.
