Anyone using a Knock-Off External Wastegate?

Ive been using a knock off ssqv bov for about a year now, and I have had zero problems.
Now its time for an external wastegate, and I'm wondering if people have had good or bad experiences with them.

Well I tried to crack it open man but the mother fers wont budge!! I will keep trying and if I get it loose I will post the pics.

alright thats odd....if you can get the beast open how the hell would you change the spring

well it will probably come off if I really crack on the bolts but I will try again when I get out of the shower. They are just on really tight. Hope they didn't use locktite or something like that. And hopefully I never have to change the spring its a 14.7 psi spring.

I don't know how the insides of the external wastegate looks, but a lot of people seem to have more success than failures. If I run across a situation, I would probably try one.

As for the SSQV knockoff that was brought up. Buy with caution, I ran one for a while, and YES it holds as much boost as the real one, but the diaphram inside ripped!!!! And it's not like the greddy design where it's easy to replace. On the SSQV design its an essential part of the unit and its attached/adheres to the back. Once it rips, you cannot just replace it easily, you can try to ghetto patch it with rubber cement or something. I was running 30lbs/min of air flow 20-25lbs, it lasted about a year.

I know a local guy that builds 400-650hp sand rails. He camps with us alot and he swears by the ssautochrome wastegates, he has never had one fail yet. I will be picking one of these up in the next week or two.

The turbo setup that came with my car has a knock off... i think it might be leaking at idle... since i feel exhaust coming out of the dump tube, but it seems to work nicely and roar under boost..

Have you ever used one of these wastegates and had problems with one? If not then you really should not post just because its not a name brand means its garbage. There is some knock off stuff that can be bad but it seems these gates have been holding up well.

Not true, knock off SSQV's hold just as much PSI as the real ones.

Thats true...But thats not saying much when the real ones leak at 7 PSI too!. Even the HKS ones are junk. .



I ran a knock off XS power 44MM wastgate for over a year. I loved it. Was very cheap, held boost great, no problems or anything. Best 70 dollars I ever spent.

I got all the way up to holding a knock-off in my hand. I bought it for an RX-7 and never used it.

I also run a Tial on my car. So I know what the expensive wastegates are like, too.

The problem with knockoff crap isn't really the quality. The designs are ripped right off the more expensive wastegates. The problem is the tolerances. Tolerances on stuff pumped out of a Chinese factory is non-existent. And I'm not just talking about car parts. As an ASME inspector, I see failed Chinese flange horror stories all the time. Like a "forged" flange that was actually cast and had a huge crack in it which was weld repaired, and then machined to make it look like a forging (that flange failed spectacularly).

You simply can't buy metal from China and be assured that you're getting what they tell you your getting. Everything in ASME has to be certified to material specs from the manufacturer, but this is completely irrelevant when the manufacturers lie (and they do). One shop had flanges arrive that were 1/16" under diameter; after investigation, it was found that the Chinese company that had made them had ground off all the stampings on the outside and marked it "made in USA."

Anyway, my point is, you're getting your money's worth when you buy any kind of Chinese knock-off stuff. What that means is there's very little quality control and no attention to tolerances, and ultimately, you have no idea what your luck will be when you get one out of the batch. You might get lucky and get one that works fine, and it seems that many of them do. But you also may get one of the many that are crap. And it's not uncommon for manufacturers to cut corners, so don't be surprised if you get an intercooler with no turbulators, for instance.

The biggest problem with people buying Chinese knock-off crap is that it's sending US dollars over to China (like they don't already own enough US debt).
