Hey guys I found this under my glove box was kinda tucked under there It looks like it should be plugged in some where but I didn't see where. If you guys could tell me what this is for and where it goes would be great :D Not sure if this not being plugged in is causing some of the problems in my other threads. Thanks in advance.

It's nothing . . . not OBD diag port, not a head unit plug . . . nadda. I have one on my 97 GST over by the passenger kick panel area and it's actually taped up and tucked out of the way from the factory. Might've been for doing some kind of diagnostics while on the assembly line or perhaps to test out the main harness before it was put into the car.

No worries- just tuck it out of the way :)

It's nothing to do with diagnostics.

All 2Gs are OBDII, only.

Half right on this Defiant. This connection has nothing to do with diagnostics. But to say ALL 2G's are OBD2 only. That is not true. Every OBD2 2G Eclipse GST/GSX that I have seen have all had the OEM Diagnostic port.

To all the others chiming in. I agree that if the connector has any importance you would have an illuminating indicator telling you. This would more than likely be a head unit connector. Which way do the wires lead? To the firewall? To the kick panel? To the center console?

Well im Getting
PO335 No Crankshaft Reference Signal At PCM
PO110 IAT Circuit Malfunction
PO105 Barometric Pressure circuit Malfunction
PO325 Knock Sensor #1 Circuit
P1500 Generator FR Terminal Circuit Malfunction

And I wasn't sure if the plug being un-plugged was contributing to that.

This is wrong. Many 2gs do have another port behind the obd2 port but it isn't what you think it is and it isn't in all cars. It is a 12 pin connector and it is for reflashing the computer which is why it doesn't exist (AFAIK) on 95-97 turbo cars but does exist on all N/T cars and 98-99 turbo cars.

Also to say that all 2g DSMs are obd2 only is not entirely correct. All 2gs are obd2 equipped but early cars also run a hybrid protocol and late care (98-99/some 97) run MUT.

the_mork,
This port is utilized for reflashing but it is also used for many other things. Most OBD2 ports lack full support of the manufacture. Case in point, many 95-early 98 GST/GSX and Talons support the OE Diagnostic port for the MUT, which gives many PIDS that the generic port doesn't, like forcing the monitors to pass smog.

Eclipse37,
Any code above P1000 is a OE code, which is specific to the Manufacturer and not OBD2 compliance. All the other codes are set because they failed a OBD2 test within the ECU.
P0335- No Crank Signal at PCM: only 2 things allow RPM readout from the PCM, the Cam and Crank signal. If you had a scope meter you would be able test the signal pattern going into the PCM and verify if this an intermittent code. That would usually mean the sensor or wiring.
P0110- IAT Circuit Malf: this could mean a couple of things but the IAT could have been unplugged on a startup or an intermittent failure.
P0105- Baro Pressure Circuit Malf: this measurement is calculated thru the MAF sensor.
P0325- Knock Sensor #1 Circuit: could be disconnected, failed sensor or bad wiring.

Most of these could be intermittent. All codes need to fail twice in order to illuminate the CEL. I would do a reset thru a scan tool, if you don't have one you could disconnect the positive battery cable for at least 30 seconds. Downside would be your station presets, unless they have a built supply for that. That last code is the first time I have seen it. I'll check on that code and find out the info on it. I'll also see what info I could dig up on the connector specifically.

I already um=plugged the battery and used my scan tool to delete the codes. To be honest I think my whole wiring harness is ####ed cause the dude that had it before hacked it up for audio shit like a moron. SO to get this all resolved I need to get a whole new wiring harness. I have a few questions though.

1. Will a 97 GST harness match up to my 1995 GST?
2. Will the CEL stay on and not go off not matter what if the wire harness is broken?
3. Will a messed up wiring harness give the all the codes im getting?
4. How hard is it to replace wiring harnesses?
5. if I have to replace the engine wiring harness will I also have to replace the interior harness?

This is what I need to figure out so I can get a new harness. because I know nothing is wrong with the engine or the sensor because i just replaced alot of them. He went in splicing a bunch of wires and shit for power ALSO when I removed the battery cables I pulled the whole battery out and the battery tray and I saw a loom of wires that were cut and poping out right before the fire wall. some of them looked like they had battery acid on them.

I just looked in my 95 GSX, i have that connector too behind the glove box, not connected to anything, but guess what, my car has no check engine lights or anything wrong with it, so the CEL lights you are getting is not because the plug is not connected to anything.

It does look like the audio harness behind the stereo, or more so like the harness for the stock amp.

I'm too lazy to bust out my voltmeter and measure and check since it hasn't bothered me. So OP, you do it :p It would be nice if it was some wires that will help in installing car audio or alarm we can tap on this side of the vehicle.

Having a 95 and AWD is nice for smog, no dyno testing and no checking for OBDII readiness. Can disable checks that would normally bring up some CEL, and they dont plug into the port to show it's not ready. muwahah. Or if you have some CELs but you know won't effect you passing or not, remove the bulb so they don't say anything, and again because they dont plug the port, they wont know there is actually a code up.

There we go...
Finally someone that knows what that connector does, i watched the guys at the local mitsu dealer "flash" my ECM which a lot of people say that the non-eeprom ECU's cant be flashed.

I even had a nice lil chat with the guy and asked him if i brought him a BIN if he could flash it for me and he said it would be impossible as the Flash tool retries the files off the "network" based on the VIN Entry :ohdamn:

Long story short, i next time i go back i will attempt to pick on the techs brain a bitabout how this "flashing" process works on the 2nd gen non-eeprom ECUS.

3. Will a messed up wiring harness give the all the codes im getting? QUITE POSSIBLY
4. How hard is it to replace wiring harnesses? SET ASIDE 1/2 A DAY
5. if I have to replace the engine wiring harness will I also have to replace the interior harness? NO

I HOPE THIS WORKED. LEFT RESPONSES IN ORIGINAL POST.

IAT &baro = Maf either unplugged or shot. Those 2 are definately do to the mass air flow sensor.

yeah when i got my car it was manual everything so i bought the power doors off this guy and put them in my car and and i dont have power mirrors and i went to the junkyard to get some relays and i went in a eclipse that had power mirrors and the plug kinda looks like the same one but im not too sure but good luck with everything

That looks like the Mitsu diagnostic plug to me. There's nothing written in stone that says there can be only one. I've worked on cars that have an OBD2 port under the column, plus two OEM style diagnostic ports under the hood for ABS and various other systems. During the transition to OBD2, multiple diagnostic connectors were all the rage.

Like others have said, it's for reflashing and other things that you won't need to do. That's why it would have been taped up out of sight originally.

I Have one that looks like that from all of my 95 talon wiring and its connected to another that runs out next to the firewall and then goes along the fender. I couldn't tell you what it affects when its unplugged my car is not running yet.

Code P1500- Generator FR circuit malfunction

This Generator is known to us as our Alternator. What this deals with is the Field Regulator allows a certain number of voltage to supply the ECU. This is widely known as a Voltage Regulator. The ECU will throw a code if the measured input voltage is different by the output voltage, which must be higher than the input, and must do this for 20 seconds or longer.

Basically, you either have a bad Regulator, Alternator or defective ECU. Meaning this could have shorted out you ECU and cause the other problems. Or whatever hack job the original owner did with the wiring caused everything. Sounds like you inherited a burden :beatentodeath: which means u should , but that kind of goes with all DSMsLOL.

Which means you must do what all of us do  in hopes you could be one of these  and then get one these :applause: for not being one of these :banghead:
Sorry I had to mess with that, but these smilies crack me up.

They should make one of Jesus walking on water for those that defy all odds, or it could be a satan icon. did I go too religious?
