I know the B16/Evo3 16G are the best bets for autox, but I'm going to want more power later on. I'd like to know if anyone is using an 18G/20G/BR20. I've heard the BR20 has good spool which is what I need; as most courses here spent 3-7K in 2nd gear.

I'll probably end up w/ a B16G, but I'd like to know if it's feasible to make a BR20 work. Our local SCCA clubs generally has higher speeds autox so I could get away with a slightly bigger turbo.

id say u need alot of throttle response so find something ball bearing like a small gt series sbr turbo or an fp3052. Only these will cost more than a evo16g and br20g but will have similar or better boost response and will yield you the extra power that you want later

You'd be suprised at how much lag will piss you off when autocrossing and how it will upset your transitions if you're not used to it.

Just going from my Big T28 setup to my friend's EVO8 made me irritated with spool.

I was afraid of that, but to make a 3052 work I'd spend about 2k on the turbo + related items, and need a whole lot of other things. I don't want a turbo with drivetrain shattering power nor do I want to go that crazy with this car.

I guess I take for granted how great the spool is on the 14b, I get full boost really anywhere in second gear. It's a great turbo for the traditional more open courses we run, and even the tighter ones. Did left-foot braking help in the evo8? How tight was the course?
