Does using anti-lag pretty frequently seem to kill plugs oir foul them out as far as any one using it a lot has noticed? Although i'm no stranger to anti-lag, using it on a regular basis, and daily is something new to me (previousely it's been one of those things for exibition or solely for a race)

Anyway, last night i finished dialing in my anti-lag setup and got it tuned perfectly to where it really helps and works on daily street use. But today i went to give a friend a ride in the car (anti-lag turned OFF) and my spark was blowing out constantly and sometimes i was dropping a plug all together for a few seconds and it would come back.

So after gettting back home i decided to finish the wiring work i began the other night to eliminate any possible bad connections as well as replacing the coils and ignitor with fresh units that were marked and taken from running engines when i was at the junk yard working as a manager years ago (thought the MSD DIS-II might have been tough on the old coils for all these years)

So, now all wiring and components are known good and although i JUST fininshed it a few minutes ago and haven't test driven it, i can tell from experience that i've probably got 2 bad plugs (and they aren't 2 weeks old) BR8ES, gapped at .017" Running E85 with the anti-lag putting timing at 2* ATDC and adding 25% fuel.

ONE LAST QUESTION, as far as 1G coils vs. 2G coils, is one model supposed to be better than the other? I have 3 sets of each and would like to utilize the superior unit if there is one (i collected the hell out of DSM ignition components when i worked at the junk yard cause i knew they would be pricey when i no longer worked there and might even be broke like i am today LOL )

Gonna test drive here after i eat and see what spark is doing, but man, if i can't keep the damn car going with a set of plugs soon on the OEM ignition i guess i'll have to NOT sell the DIS-II and put it back in the car

resolved - see last post by me for details

too much fuel and not enough timing atdc, try 11deg and 5-10% fuel.

Will do, I worked to where i am from 50% fuel and have been taking timing down slowly so that the car isn't too flat on it's face and i can keep a cruise going decenly while it spools

normally I use to set it at 15% ATDC and 50% fuel and i could open the wastegate at 25psi in neutral with it on the 57 trim, but you definitely couldn't be in gear, rolling with it active and not be jerking and bucking all over the place LOL

settings aside, have you had it kill a set of plugs from a days worht of use before?

Got it sorted out tonight, the plugs were fine

When it stared acting up I decided that I was gonna finish inspecting and re-wiring and replacing ALL the ignition components (mentioned this already) but the issue ended up being in the coils i'm pretty sure. Their resistance was relatively high and almost out of spec when taken off (but they had already cooled quite a bit from initial shut-down) and their resistance dropped below the range where the rest of the spares i had once they were at ambient temps

I also replaced the ignitor just for the hell of it and finished removing the harness that tied in the MSD box i was using (had been runnign with the MSD bypass plug installed) Not only was it a lot of wire but it was a lot of wire with a lot of un-needed solder joints, and other signs of deterioration

Anyway, to get to the point, with no change to the plugs (pulled, inspected, and re-installed them as is) The car was immediately running and reving off idle quite a bit smoother, once i got on the interstate and had a clear patch with no other vehicles around i pulled a nice 3rd gear 30psi test run to 7500RPM without a single hiccup or sign of hesitation/missing

Another note-worthy change i made from the layout of the components was to move the ignitor back to the manifold (where the coils are mounted as well) Which i've read in the past that it's important for these 2 items to be mounted to the same bracket/part so they shared the best possible path for a common earth through their bodies. (although before i had it on the fire wall with a ground strap from the firewall to intake less wire and distance still equalls less resistance) And it let me clean/tuck the wires just that much better than before as well

Sorry for the long posts, it gets boring with no one to talk to around here LOL, but the car's fixed and i'm stoked!!!!!!!

Conclusion = Anti-lag use yesterday had no efect on thehealth of the plugs as far as I could tell.

Another thing i'd like to point out is that when anti-lag is properly setup it can be one hell of a helping hand on the street and fine for daily use. One of the main things about using it is that it CAN damage parts fast from the heat it's tossing into your turbo but really for the type of pulls you would do on a daily street driven basis i don't think it would really make an impact on the life of your parts. IN rally use wher eits' constantly on, now i can see that burning up turbines and coking oil into a turbo pretty fast. But for me on the street, when i use it there's maybe only about 5-7 seconds of time that it's activted, and from the pyrometer i can say it's really not getting things hot enough to worry about but the gains are astounding. if i lay into my car 100 TPS at 3k RPM in third i'd be lucky to have 10psi by 4500 RPM, but if i engage the AL at 4k RPM and only 50% TPS i'm building 15-18psi by about 4500-4800 RPM, but the car isn't accelerating at all, then when i push the pedal down to 100% TPS and the anti-lag shuts off it's an instant hit like i was using a small shot of nitrous, it really is fun and effective. I know there's no point to this but i need to share my findings, I think i need a webpage or a blog or something LOL
