Anti-lag system or mis-firing system??

I am very curious about this, and when I say anti-lag I'm not talking about the electronic control of an ecu but the physical system.

The reason I'm curious about it is my friend just picked up an Rallyart Evo 4 ;)that we are working on and it has a factory anti-lag system. Also I have been watching alot of Initial D and an Evo 3 on the series has it. Did they or is there a way to find/make/incorporate this into our motor since it's the same as the evo 3???

That anti-lag setup (called Secondary Air System) is basically just a BOV that vents fresh air into the exhaust manifold in order to cause pre-turbine backfiring. But the valve(s) are still controlled by the ECU, so adaptation to a DSM would require all the ALS parts from an Evo along with the ECU.
 
It's actually an EXTREMELY WELL DONE convert..... Mirage body but everything has been swapped... Doors, bumpers, trunk pan, full engine with harness, full drivetrain.... Everything! And it's got a lot of go fast goodies on it.


I do understand how it works and what I would need, but was it ever factory implemented on the evo 3 as it is on the evo4? I'd like to have it off of an evo3 since it's the same motor platform as ours.... Or could I find it off of an evo 4 or later and custom install it on mine?

I realize it would be some interesting tuning.... You'd have to dump some fuel when coming off the throttle to richen it up and along with the secondary airflow into the manifold, it combusts causing denser, high pressure exhaust to keep the turbo spooled during a shift.

I would imagine some are thinking just to recirc the bov and yes, I agree and plan on it... but could this be more effective than bov recirc to intake? or even possibly more potent in combination with?!

Also, since I'm working on a build, I've been looking for something to make me stand out, something unique.... The novelty of it.

I'm 97% positive it was never used on the Evo 3.

There is a vacuum pot underneath the intake manifold that stores the air that is dumped back into the exhaust manifold on decel, it's not just "a bov that goes into the exhaust manifold". This MUST be controlled by the ECU.

You can do much the same thing with an AEM EMS, and you can make an aftermarket system that is much more aggressive than the factory evo setup.

I don't think it did.... It's was on on the group A evo 3, never the production model. :(

And I'll probably steer away from it.... I can always drive the IV if I want :D

No sir, lift to shift just cuts spark to limit revs in between shifts.

This injects fresh air directly into the exhaust manifold while cutting or retarding spark and adding fuel, and only after you're on throttle and come off it. it will continue to do this for as long as you program it to. This is the bang-bang type anti-lag system used on most rally cars.

The factory system is quite mild, but does it's job, especially with the small stock turbo.

I've also read that it can reek havoc on turbo/motor, but I would imagine if it's factory in the evos, it was designed to be consistent and reliable.

Might try to find a way to retrofit the evo 4 system onto mine.

I'm just curious as to whether or not dsmlink could handle the control and tune for it.....
 
I would think the easiest ECU route would be an AEM EMS, even if you wanted to use the IV's mechanical system. Link is kindof tailored to DSM's and the usual upgrade paths, whereas EMS is kindof a 'do whatever you want' ecu.

Of course, if you have an EMS, you could then just use it's built in anti-lag. But I agree, the factory mitsubishi setup *should* be less damaging and milder all around.

Also, more pics of the IV please. Anything with a Mine's sticker gives me a chubby.
 
I see, I may still contact dsmlink and see if there might be a way they think it can be done.... Already have v3 and my pockets are afraid of AEM! Lol
