So I just got my -an fittings in tonight. I am having problems threading the steel and aluminum fittings together. After about one thread it gets stuck. It looks to be the right size, but looks like it's a little too large. The male is steel and the female is aluminum. Has anyone else had this problem? They are Earl's. I am going to contact the place I got them from tomorrow, but I really need the fitting now and it will be another week till it gets here. On the other hand I don't want to mess up the threads on a $15 fitting.

BTW the aluminum male fitting threads in just fine.

How do the threads look? Check the steel weld bung closely for any burrs or defects on the threads; a very small burr will prevent the AN threads from going on. Also, you should always use a little oil on the threads of AN fittings, (especially if screwing aluminum to steel or stainless steel) to avoid galling.

Are you sure you got the parts you think you did? Did you verify the part numbers on the packaging?

Unfortunately only one of the fittings actually came in the Earl's packaging. The others came in unmarked wrapping. It looks to me that they are the right sizes. The weld fitting doesn't have any burrs on it. I think I'll call the place tomorrow and see what they think.
