Hey guys so got the new head gasket on and engine timed... Now working on getting it back together and the box fell over so kind of confused on alternator bracket and intake manifold going back in.. any help like a DIY thing would be awesome thanks.. going from E36 BMW to dsm sucks

Ok, I think you need to elaborate more on what you want help with. Yes, your confused, but simply asking advice on a "DIY thing" because youre "kind of confused on alternator bracket and intake manifold going back in" is not enough for us to answer. If youre confusing parts, post the pics of them and we can help. If you don't know how to put them back on, then refer to the search box or browse the tech articles.

We want to help you but youre not making it any easier :p

Sorry about that I was running from school to work and just threw that up... In the bmw forums I'd get chewed out for that kind of a post.. but back to the confusing part... I have two black pieces I'm lost on how they fit in. One is the bracket that kind of covered the alternator and the other one kind of curves and has 3 holes... I'll get pictures tomorrow when I go out to the garage but someone might be able to understand ...thanks for wasting your time reading my stupid post..

Get some pics and we can help a lot more. Only thing that I can say definitively is that your alternator bracket mounts to the water pump bolt on the bottom left of the pump. So if all the bolts are back on the pump the one has to come back off to mount the alternator back on.

So these are the parts I'm confused on how they piece together ... Any help appreciated as I'm stuck right here.

I realized that as I posted LOL but the other two pieces and an L bracket are all I need to figure out. Alternator, intake manifold, power steering pump is all I have left... Power steering pump didn't have a belt when I bought the car and not sure if it works can I just leave it off?

Anyone? Bump.

I have never messed with a 420a at all, but I can tell you that your first picture is the alternator bracket and your second and third pictures are the power steering pump brackets. I have no idea what the third and forth pictures are of.

Does your car have A/C? Possibly a dumb question but I'm new to DSM's as well. I just removed my A/C and replaced my power steering pump, so I'm familiar with the area of the engine you're working in. As said before, those are definitely alternator and power steering brackets and as for the third/fourth - I have no clue. I don't recall seeing it on my car (2g/420a) but I had another much bigger bracket that my a/c compressor mounted to.

Thanks that is the picture I needed.. and I think I'm leaving my ps pump out and the third and fourth I'm still looking but alternator and intake manifold and I'm ready to go... Does the black (egr filter?) Go in first then the lower piece then the upper piece.. the intake manifold design is poor.. thanks again guys

So alternator, cooling system, tie rods, sway bar end links all done today but now this freaking intake manifold is just as much a pia to put in ... Any pointers from the dsm veterans for getting the things in place?
