as I was driving home my alternator light turned on with the break light so I was like OK I have to change the alternator. but when I put my car in park the idle jumped to 1600rpm. could a bad alternator cause the idle to jump?
 
No, it would do the opposite. Check IDLE SURGE REMEDIES online. Sounds like a bad IAV.
