Hey guys just bought a GST 1998, with about 70k on the apparent "rebuild" LOL. Anyways the car starts perfetly and holds amazing idle, but the lights are constantly flickering low to high power in a synchronized pattern. Everytime the lights blink low to high / vice versa the fuel pump makes a whining sound also (255 walbro). I have a spare walbro, but there is no point in putting it in if just the alternator is bad. Any input?

Dont got a voltmeter handy right now, but when i rev up the car all the lights get brighter, obvious indication of bad alternator. Maybe a bad battery to? I was really just wondering if i replaced my alternator would it fix the fuel pump constant whining?

Is the fuel pump rewired yet if not it should be. If it is check the connections on it. I here my walbro changing pitch when I turn my turn signals on, but watching my volts they stay fine. But with your situation sounds like the voltage regulator in alternator is going bad.

Humm, watcha mean by rewiring? and the fuel pump is whining very loud regardless of what i do. and if the VR is bad, i should just replace the whole alternator yah?

Walbros are very whiny pumps something you will have to get used to or switch to like a Evo pump. Look here http://www.vfaq.com/mods/pump-relay.html for a how to and why on fuel pump rewire. Or search on this site there is tons of info on it. Basically it eliminates voltage drops in fuel pump by giving it a straight connection to battery for constant volts. I would just replace alternator with a parts store one most are lifetime warranty so that's a plus. You can take your car to most parts store to let them check the alternator to see if it's bad or good.

Ohh i c, well thanks for the input man, gonna get the alternator checked out, and possibly the rewire to =]

There are good rewire kits on eBay for about $20, I got mine years ago an it's been working great. Just make sure its a reputable seller, if you want I could find the guy I went thru for ya. I highly suggest you do this right away, especially if you plan on boosting more than stock psi.

Not all walboro's whine. I cant hear my 255 in my car. Def sounds like alternator though. Does your brake light come on?

R u talking bout the brake light on the dash? or the brake lights around the car LOL, cause no lights on dash, and all my lights around the car work perfectly. I unplugged the alternator and the car ran perfectly with no lights dim, Etc. So almost positive the alternator is shot, does anyone know where to buy a decent one that wont die on me after 1 -3 month like the autozone ones? link please :D

Lol ya I can't here mine either once I hit full boost with my radio blastin.

I highly recommend an AC Delco Saturn alternator swap. Lifetime warranties do not mean crap when you're stranded in the middle of nowhere. Cost is close to $100 and output is around 105 amps. Stock is between 65 and 75 amps. Whatever you get, make sure that the pulley isn't smaller than stock if you ever plan on exceeding 7200 rpm.
