hey guys i got a 92' 1g n/t eclipse and im wanting to rebuild it because the valve seals are leaking bad and i want more power. But i have done a little research and an all motor build to do it right you really need to go bigger on everything fuel pump, injectors, pistons, compression, etc. but with a turbo setup it is quick power and a little cheaper depending on how big of a turbo you go with, but i heard there is alot of issues when it comes to tuning a N/T car with a turbo and you would need a new engine harness and a turbo ecu, and dsmlink. i really need some feedback from you guys about this so i can make the right choice. thanks guys

It's easy to convert to turbo, and the only wires you really absolutely need to add to your harness are MAF reset, knock sensor, and an injector resistor pack. You won't need to use the BCS and FPS wiring until you start using the advanced features of ECMlink. The turbo ECU will plug in right in place of your N/A ECU.

With an All-Motor build you wouldn't even come close to 200hp without very extensive mods. One of the biggest of those mods being higher compression pistons, which require you to pull the engine and rebuild it strictly for NA. Needless to say it's time consuming and expensive considering the minimal power gains. For the price of forged, high comp., NA pistons you could probably find a wrecked 1g turbo DSM and swap all the necessary turbo parts to your car.

The initial cost of a turbo setup might be higher, but the sky is the limit after that. Spending thousands on an all-motor build just to get stomped by NA Civic's doesn't sound fun to me.

It basically comes down to the budget and the individual preference of the car owner of going all-motor or turbo... Then it comes down to what type of racing will the car see - street, street/track, drag, road race, etc... Those are questions that need to be anwered before going shopping for parts... Building a high performance car aint just about parts shopping and bolting parts... Theres more to it, that needs to be taken into consideration in order to end up with a hassle free well balanced machine...
