Turbo or motor?

A buddy of mine asked me a how can you tell the difference if his turbo is blowing oil or it is his rings, his car is consuming quite a bit of oil and puffs quite a bit under acceleration. Is there any way to tell if its the oil seals on the turbo causing the burning of oil or is it the rings.

remove the intercooler pipes and see if there's oil in there... if there is, then it could be your turbo or pcv valve. also do a compression test to see if there are warn piston rings.
