I’m no aerodynamic genius so some input will help me with my next project. I recently got a 1Gb carbon-fiber hood so I’m having to make my own headlight/grille setup to fit on my 1Ga car. My question is…Is it beneficial to allow more or less air into the engine bay? If I bring it in I can vent it out through the hood if necessary or if it will help anything. I already made a front splitter, which goes quite a ways back under the car, and creates a smooth surface under the front of the car. I want a lot of air to flow thru the intercooler/oil cooler, but I’ve heard a lot of benefits of airdams as well. Also if I do cut a hole in the hood, it would be right above where my intake is (passenger-side by windshield), it might help create a lower pressure are under the car by sucking air out. I figure it will allow for more cool air to flow around the intake on its way out the hood too.

This 1st pic is of a 1gb:

This is where the hood vent would be, and kinda how mine will look with the pop-ups gone:

Be creative and tell me what you think. I’m thinking of just leaving the “A” headlights recessed and creating something of fiberglass or abs plastic for the middle. Or just use a wire mesh to fill in the area on the last pic and let the light shine thru it. Or hell this may just be a waste of time if I just leave it open……the air thing is still a good question though

You want as much as needed to cool the IC and radiator, but no more. You also want the engine bay to be below atmospheric, both to add more pull through the IC and radiator and also for downforce. Whether you do this with an airdam, hood vents, or a combination is up to you.

The rest of your post was a confusing ramble that seemed more cosmetic than performance. Stay focused and you will receive better replies.
