Hey guys, just got this oil pump, and a few things look off imo. Take a look, is it fine? Or should I return and get a new one.

You can "massage" that for even smoother oil flow or return it and hope the next casting is better. I would be working on the oil pump casting with a dremel anyway so I would probably be OK with it. Out of the package would show more, but I understand leaving it sealed up. It's a 50/50 call.

If it's not a PITA to exchange it I would, but as Marty says, it's likely you will want to touch up whatever you get to improve the flow.

I've only used OEM front cover/oil pumps and the machining on that is awful. I wonder if a different brand is any better?

I have a new ACL and it's just as bad. I'd check your pump gear clearances and whatnot. The oil flow channels TO the gears are also nowhere near as large as OEM and there's inconsistencies where they neck down or casting flaws that restrict flow. I doubt your replacement is going to be much better but you can try. Check my build thread for the pic comparisons.

Give it a thorough look over everywhere.

Unfortunately, that is becoming true Victor. :(

1st pic is the oem gasket on the oem pump, 2nd pic is the gasket on the acl, I figure I’ll just try to match the acl with the oem with a dremmel

I also hate how narrow the channels are to and around the oil pump gears on the ACL piece. I don't think it's possible to widen them without severely risk compromising the unit.

Yikes that middle hole.
Great way to increase oil pressure before it even hits the block whilst lowering actual flow capacity. Thanks ACL.
I grinded that area a little bit, I didn’t want to go to far.
