I decided that i was going to change out my transmission fluid and the filter when I did the routine maintenance on my 96 Talon Awd because i bought it at around 66k miles and did not know what had been done to it as far as maintenance. I went to the parts store to get a filter and gasket for it and I cannot seem to find it. I tried O'Reilly's, Autozone, and NAPA, none of which could find the filter that I had. They looked in their books and everything trying to match it up and they couldnt find one that matched it. Anyone know of a rare transmission that i might have gotten in my car that would be hard to find parts for? or maybe someone did a transmission swap?

thanks for any help
Gil

Whats the difference between yours and the parts store ones?

the gasket didnt match up with the outside edge of my oil pan on the tranny and the filter holes dont match up either

thanks for the help guys, i went to a transmission shop and they were able to match it up, they said something about it being the jdm version? who knows

There were NO JDM Eclipses or talons 1g or 2g. A very small amount were imported TO japan from the US.

JDM engines are from the evo1-3 or the galants.

So the guys in Japan that have Eclipses are all US???

I could have sworn I read somewhere......

A joint venture with Chrysler in Illinois called Diamond Star was established in 1988. The factory produced Galant, Eclipse, 3000GT and their Chrysler-badged versions until the American car makers sold its stakes in the mid-90s.

Sounds as if they started building them in Japan in the mid 90's

From what I have seen and heard a 13G, which is on the 1G A/T, came off of the JDM Motor I ordered for a friend that came off of JDM Eclipse.

No, the cars were still built in illinois even in 99. That plant is still used today too. The chysler and mitsu partnership ended in the mid 90's so technically the 1995 cars were that last true DSM"s corporate wise. Nothing changed at the actual factory, just whitecollar business on the upper levels. Thats what there saying, not that they moved to japan.

Your second sentence has me confused too. When they say the engine your getting is a JDM eclipse engine its NOT actually from an eclipse. The chances of it being from an eclipse that was shipped to japan is so slim its not even worth saying its possible. Its like the chances of a Japanese skyline owner getting an engine from a wrecked imported US skyline here, virtually impossible. The engine is most likely from a galant or evo 1-3.

Well, that wandered away nicely.

If there's more trans filter questions, start a thread.

If there's more debate about facts, look up the answers.

And no, T/E/Ls are all American cars. None were ever made in Japan.
