The stock Mitsu trans filter MD735572 is clearly bigger than the aftermarkets. It's also obvious to see it allows fluid to enter through the top/side slot to help any pump cavitation problems during a launch etc.
I didn't see any comparison pics in this section but this is why the OEM is $50 vs $20 for the aftermarkets. IMO, the OEM is better and worth the $.
FWIW, if you have an aftermarket filter and am going back to the OEM filter, I did, you'll need new mounting bolts. I wish I wrote this part down but I think I purchased the bolt sizes below due to the aftermarket bolts being too short and not even making it through the OEM filter.
