I drive a (97 eclipse gst automatic)

For some reason it will not go into overdrive, and when I stop it takes off in 2nd, even when I shift it down to 1st it wont do anything, so basically I only have 2nd and drive. It doesn't really sound like limp mode since I have heard limp mode keeps the car in 2nd all the time.

I have changed out the 10 amp fuse, and disconnected the battery cables. sometimes it does fine sometimes it goes crazy.
I don't know if I need another Tcu or if this could be a shift solenoid, or a pulse generator issue, if anyone knows what the problem is or have any suggestions please let me know thanks.

yea mine does the same thing!! idk what gear mine is in tho... i have park, reverse, N, and then just drive... when it goes into drive it doesnt shift at all  even if i put it into 2nd or low?? and O/D does nothing so yea my mechanic told me mine was in limp mode

I have the same problem, however I am throwing the code for P1750, which is the Transmission solenoid pack. Are you throwing any codes?

I dont know I hooked up a scanner today it wouldn't read back any codes. but the check engine light is on. I don't know what the issue is when it is cold outside it shifts fine, when it is hot or warm outside it craps out. I'm lookinginto buying a 2 button shifter it basicaly replaces the TCU and lets you shift like a manual through 4 gears.

My car has been doing the samething randomly. BUT are you saying a SHIFT Box will replace this problem??? Because if you are.... forget the mechanics, id rather order the box. LET ME.... let US know asap please and thanks.

My car was doing the same thing right after i got it 5 years ago. took it to the dealer and it was just a lose connection at the back of the fuse box inside the car. I had paid $1400 to rebuild the tranny when it was that lose connection the whol time. With diagnosis it was only a $200 fix from the dealer.

The dealership sucks BALLS! I took my car in about 3 months ago because my car was having trouble starting, my mpg was disgustingly low, and the tranny wasnt shifting. I drove the car there. Left it for 3 days. They call me and tell me that they couldnt diaginos the car because the car wouldnt hold a charge. Last i heard... there was PLENTY of things you could hook My Car up to inorder to have power. They claimed it was the battery ($110), then the alternator ($400), after the battery i said "Please give me my car back, your simply THROWING parts at my car hoping for a damn fix." We argued... i ended up paying $240 to get it out... and i had to TOW the car home. Mitsubishi dealership (atleast around my way) is GARBO!!!

I know street tuners with more sense then those bastards. Duck a dealer, but i will check the fuse box :thumb:

well your lucky I lived in Atlanta at the time, it cost me 3500.00 to rebuild my tanny it was gone for 3 weeks, and less than a month after I had it back it went into limp mode. I will check the fuse box connection It seems logical that could be the problem after a 3500.00 rebuild.

Also the 2 button shifter there is a guy on this site screen name EagleTalenTim, he has his own website roadsurge.com look in the products category it explains the shifter in detail. I sent him a pm, he told me it replaces the TCU completley it will take your tranny out of limp mode, and give you full controll over the shift points in the auto tranny. he has a video of it in action. I am buying one on Friday. Even If i fix the problem I have now I would rather be able to shift it like a manual at the push of a button. you should look into it since the dealer keeps screwing you around. for 170.00 bucks it might fix your problem

From personal experience if the car stays in just a couple of gears it is an electrical part failure or a valve body problem. If it tries to go into a gear and the gear is missing (free revving) then it is end clutches which are an hour job (for a first timer) and just slightly south of $100 from IPT, you don't even need to drain the fluid or get dirty.

Very true, BUT alot of ppl still have trouble with gears grinding and it not going into gear and only wen the car is off and such. I read of ton of threads and it honestly seems like A/T's have less troubles in the long run

Im going with the steering wheel setup. Im just not a guru with the fab work and electrical things
