Ok so I purchased a 95 Gst from a friend a few months ago. It didn’t run smooth and ran rich when he bought the car. So he pulled the ecu (car was completely stock) and found a bad solder on the board, fixed it and now the car runs great. But the car is in limp mode now, He didn’t have money or resources to deal with it, so I bought the car. I’ve found no relays or fuses in either engine bay or next to the pedals that effect the a/transmission. I pulled the tcu and it smells and looks fine. The car drives no different with the tcu in or out. Should I just replace the tcu or does it sound like something different? Also my SRS light is on what is this light for? If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

what do you mean by limp mode: what are the symptoms of the limp mode?
most of the time, the controlling computer will put the system into limp mode if it isnt receiving an important signal from a sensor. if you can check the TSB's on that, if not i can check them for you and ill post what i find later on today.

You need a new ecu. Yours was not fixed properly and is probably beyond fixing.
I had the same problem, limp mode and hard shifts, was not detecting tps, maf, map, doing weird stuff.

Replace the ecu and you will find your problems solved. As for the running rich, consider changing your o2 sensors and fuel filter. Is your bov recirculated?

I am hoping you were meaning to say TCU.
To the OP. Sounds like the TCU is dead. Very common for these car's.

Actually, no. Although I did not know the TCU is a notorious thing to die and failed to read about pulling it and the car running the same either way.

If you can find a known good TCU and swap it in and see how it goes that is def where you should start. If that doesn't work seriously consider the ECU being bad. Any repaired ECU not done by a professional is temporary at best.

Ok so I got the re manufactured Tcu, and at first after putting it in it fixed my problem with being in limp mode. But after taking the car out today for a drive it went back into limp mode. So I disconnected the battery for ten min and hooked it back up, it took the car out of limp mode but after driving it for 2 min it went back into limp mode again. So what could it be since its not the Tcu?Also when its not in limp mode car shifts hard into drive and when going from 1st to 2nd gear.

I've noticed that when i manually try to shift from L(1st) to 2nd it puts the car in Limp mode. It feels like it shifts into 2nd gear for only one second (but no rpm change) then goes into Limp mode (3rd gear). But if i start the car and put it into D, the car will do the same thing execpt not go into limp mode. So 1st gear and same feeling of engaging into 2nd with no rpm change then shifts to 3rd gear, but its not in limp mode so when i slow to a stop and give it gas it down shifts back to 1st gear. If anyone has any ideas or comments please let me know, Thanks Jake.

(VSS)Vehicle Speed Sensor?....Also my dash lights dont work?....and you mentioned something about your speedo? I was thinking either A or B shift solenoids were bad, but i still need to run a transmission scan to see if i have any more electric problems.
