I know my TCU is out of the laser but the car's at a friends about 15 miles away, would it be bad on the transmission to drive the car in limp mode for 15 miles?

Thanks,
-A

15miles should be no problem as long as you can keep the car under 40mph. Avoid highways, only side roads.

The TCU is out so the ECU cannot tell if the transmission is in working order so the ECU puts the car in limp mode. Limp mode only allows for third and reverse so the car is super sluggish.

Limp mode is the car's way of protecting itself. When the computer recieves a signal from one of the sensors that is outside of manufacturer set limits it will make the driver aware that there is a problem. Sometimes it's as simple as a check engine light. Other times, particularly when the transmission is involved, it will switch to an emergency "survival" mode which will allow the car to be driven somewhere for repairs, but will not allow it to be driven in a way that would cause more damage.
