Limp Mode? 98 Eclipse GST

I was thinking about checking out and maybe buying this 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST Automatic Trans with 112k miles. The Body was in Great Shape and The Engine From Craigslist It had one dent on the driver front fender. Anyway my main point is I contacted the owner and he said the car is in Limp mode. Transmission Control Unit Problem?

This is everything he said:

Amazing 98 red gst with 112k miles, car is in very good shape original paint. The car have front mount intercooler, egr-vacuum delete, boost restrictor removal now its boosting 14 psi, the car is auto. will come with a set of headers with a turbo, new 255 fuel pump and manual boost controler never installed, and a bunch of plastic for the car. right now the car have a problem with the transmission is in limp mode and i not have time to fixed, so give me and offer asap. thanks

The price is $1800 obo is it even with it?

Make him an offer. Maybe TCU but even if it isn't if it's clean it is worth it.

Limp mode doesn't necessarily mean tcu problem . Tcu has to pot the transmission in limp mode if something is not performing good ( for example pulse generator A or B ) The best way to find out is to check for codes .

Check for any check engine lights? Okay.

Check transmission for codes with the scanner . Same scanner as for engine codes same obd port . This way you will have idea what need to be fixed . For example P0702 CODE =Transmission Control System Electrical ,P0710....Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Circuit

Buy it, it's probably something stupid like a boost leak or a maf issue.
