So I have had my 92 awd tsi for about 2 months now and I have so far, added a mbc as well as a boost gauge, I have done most of the free mods and all necessary maintenance, Its running 15psi on its stock 14b, I'm pretty new to turbo's and I have done my research but I'm hoping you can answer my questions.
1.Is 15psi pretty much topping out a 14b if not whats left to do?
2.Is a 16b a direct bolt on and what power gains are achieved?
3.what should my next 0-$600 mod be. exhaust/fmic/bigger turbo.
4.Any cheap camber correction kits for the rear of my lowered awd :)
Feel free to throw some ideas at me, I am not wanting huge power just something more that is safe and can be run with stock parts.

1. I wouldnt push your 14b over 15psi since your car will more than likely fall on its face due to fuel cut. Most guys usually leave their boost on their 14b from 12-15psi so you should be fine.
2. Do you mean 16g? If so, then yes, it is a direct bolt on, but if youre looking todo the swap make sure you have other supporting mods covered (fuel system, some type of logging device, safc, etc)
3. If you play your cards right and go through the Classifieds you should be able to cover a few things at once if youre looking to top out at $600. Ive seen full exhaust systems (used mined you) go for $200-$300. So just keep looking and keep your eyes open for deals. I built my full exhaust excluding downpipe for less than $200 if youd like to take that route.
4.I know that Ingalls is a popular choice for our cars. Im not sure what youre looking to spend but that would be the wise choice. To see more info. on the Ingalls camber kits or others experience with them, just goto the search forums and type Ingalls and read away.

I seen some people squeeze 19-20 psi out of a 14b (with supporting mods)......remember, more air needs more fuel, its not about just raising boost and making power, fuel is an essential piece to the equation along with other things.

You could just jump to a small 16g or big 16, depending on your goals

These are some specs

Flow rates at 15 psi

TDO5H-14B-6CM2 405 CFM
TDO5H-14G-8CM2 465 CFM
TDO5H-16G-7CM2 505 CFM
TDO5H-16G-10CM2 505 CFM

I believe this is the max output of the 16gs (correct me if im wrong)
TD05-16G (small) 345-365hp @ 22 psi
TD06-16G (large) 365-385hp @ 22 psi


The 16g will bolt up to your mitsu manifold


I would look into replacing your stock restrictive piping and sidemount intercooler while upgrading your turbo (if you havent already)


if you go to an aftermarket BOV, remember to vent back to the intake......the MAF wont like it if you dont.....your ECU will make your engine run rich like a piggy (you might kow this)



I will suggest to make a plan, and review what your goals are in terms of power, then make a list in steps of things to help you get there.....if you skip a step to far, you might run into problems
 
Buying a FMIC, and/or a GM 3 inch MAF with a MAF Translator. That would be a big help to your later plans on a bigger turbo. Also I would looking into bigger injectors, fuel pump and a big thing to get right away a logger.

Easy UPgrades and they are a good way to start off
 
^^^^^Mikhro is correct that it is possible to squeeze more out of your 14b but with only a mbc and boost gauge i wouldn't turn it up anymore, as previously stated, without supporting mods. My appologies, I was only refering to the setting that you should be at with your current setup and didnt mention the further potential of the 14b. Mikhro also makes a good point of planning out your power goals and the necessary steps you need to take.
 
This was good timing because i got talking to a guy who is selling a evo 16g, what can i run the 16g on with just rewiring the fuel pump? As for tuning are our ecu's differant to evo 3 ones? if not won't it read it fine? I'm guessing its differant to ours, Its comes with a jpipe btw.
 
For your next mods I would concentrate on the fuel system. Get a 255 pump, an AFPR and bigger injectors. You will also need something to tune with so look into either a MAFT with a 3"gm maf or an AFC. Get a logger too so you can tell what you're doing with all the new goodies. As far as the 14b being maxed out at 15lbs well... I've been running 20lbs on mine for years and it has 195k on it now. The 14b is a pretty good little turbo and has propelled a few DSM's into the 11 second range. This of course requires a lot of work but it is possible. Just do the little things first and leave the turbo go for now. After you get the fuel mods done do the exhaust and get a good FMIC. You'll be pretty surprised how far a 14b can take you with the proper supporting mods.

For your camber issues I'd suggest the ingalls adjustable rear arms. You can get them on ebay along with the front eccentric bolts for about $200 shipped.
 
the 16g is 200 bucks tho can i really pass up on that?

If it's a real EvoII 16g then it's not a bad deal as long as it doesn't have any shaft play. Don't forget there are a lot of 16g knock offs out there that people try to pawn off as the real deal. Even if it is a real 16g you will still need a bigger fuel pump and bigger injectors to use it. You could probably get away with a 2g maf, 190 pump, and 550's and just use an AFC and logger to tune with.
 
Really i cant just use it as a replacement to a 14b, i'm not wanting to make craxy hp just more than stock, what is the difference between our set ups and evo 3's?
 
Deffinatly upgrade your fuel system. Get a 255 with AFPR or a 190 AFPR still recomended but not needed. Injectors will need to be upgraded to compensate for more air and to prevent fuel cut issues. The next thing you'll need is logger/tunning software. ECMLink is proven and is cheaper if you already have an EPROM ECU. Only downside is that alone will hit your cost limit. Pocket logger otherwise.

16g series is a direct bolt-on for a 1g with stock j-pipe.

You can throw the 16g on without anything else, but it has a possibility to run pretty lean. Keep it at stock boost levels ran off of the wastegate. Biggest issue is potential creeping which you'll want to get taken care of before you put it on the car. I had to do 2 porting sessions until it was gone.

Difference is the j-spec model of the car came with the 16g along with larger injectors and an ecu that kept it all nice and happy.
 
This is a dilemma all i was after was a turbo upgrade could i make my car run like a stock evo ecu/fuel pump/injectors etc.
 
In all honesty, unless your 14b is on it's way out, just keep it in there. They are strong turbos and have put some into the 10s.
