A/C removal?

Living in WY, no need for it. I drove w/o it during 03 in KC, KS with a lot of humidity. heat index would be into the 11X! anyways, its just extra weight now. can i just remove the belt and the ac stuff to get rid of it? forgot what it looked like if seperate belt.

Yes you can just remove the belt, that will get rid of the drag on the engine. But if you want to removed the excess weight you will need to remove all the lines under the hood and the actual pump or whatever you want to call it. That is a b*tch to get at with the engine in the car.
Also you can remove the A/C condensor behind the radiator.

It's 40 pounds. The loss in resale value makes it not worth the work. Leave it on, cycle it once a week, and don't use it if you don't care to. The parasitic drag of the unengaged clutch isn't significant enough to concern yourself with.

bah, the extra room when condensor is removed would be nice. I will probably remove the belt however, it doesnt even work anyways, and where im at i dont need ac. 470 is plenty if not too much.

thx for advice, the reason im asking is because im going to be replacing the water pump and timing belt and thought i would kill 3 birds with one stone.

I'd remove it... I have mine removed... I agree we deffinitly don't need it here in WY... But I wouldn't just take off the belt and/or unplug it... It's still going to be in your way, and the weight is still there... I'd either leave it all on, or take it all off...

BTW - I see your in Cheyenne - PM' me sometime, we need more DSM'rs around here...

yeah dont do it unless your planning on not selling the car for a really long time or you dont mind getting it flushed out then putting it back on so you can sell it.

what about the bracket for the a/c condesor? can i remove that or does it need to be on there to keep the equal length half shaft in place? if it has to stay on can i mod it to get rid of some of the weight.

I removed the bracket, and just cut off the one piece of the bracket that was between that half shaft, kind of like making a really thick washer. It cut easilly with a dremel.
