A/C Removal Question

When th a/c gets removed is there coolant lines in that system that need to be kept hooked up

The cooling system and the A/C system are not connected in any way. When you remove it, you can take it all out. Nothing needs to be kept hooked up.

I think he means the HVAC system in general as both the heater core and A/C core are intergral parts of the under dash ducting.

If that is the question, you dont' need to dicker with the A/C core as the 3lb weight savings is not worth the effort to tear all the ducting apart and putting back together.

BTW..it's been like 100F all week. Why are you taking the A/C out for

Im taking it out because it does not work anyway and i want to clear out the engine bay a little bit

you can just remove the AC stuff ther are no coolent lines that run to the AC but make sure you have the system recoved befor opening any lines as there my still be feone in the system and its nofun to have it sprayed on you

Sorry to jack your thread but what if you cant get the car down to the shop and have the system drained but still want to pull the AC. I'm in the last stages of my rebuild and the AC compressor is a pain to deal with while dropping in the engine, not to mention my cold air stopped being cold long ago.

What do you recommend to handle the freon, and what should I expect when I take that first hose off and the system depressurizes?

I didn't say this and if I did say this is was computer generated and is illegal, so I didn't say it.

If the A/C isn't cold most likely the refrigerant is long gone. You will have very little if any pressure and the same goes for the refrigerant. You can disconect the LOW side line and let what is left out, but again IT IS ILLEGAL TO DO THIS. The low side lines are on the driver side of the car.
